I am planning on replacing the frame in my 1998 Toyota Tacoma but I'm having trouble finding one. I was wondering if the frame from a 1998 4Runner with a v6 automatic transmission would work with my single cab 2.7 liter manual Tacoma?

    Why not patch the frame?

I was thinking about that but the frame is pretty shot... I don't know how much good metal would even be left to weld to after I sand down the rust

Hate to hear that. Try to hold on to the truck, you don't see too many single cab 4FWD Tacos

Well to start with they have rear coils not leaf springs. Not sure the rest of the differences

Edit. Also the motor mounts would be different

Might help to put your location in your profile at least so if someone nearby has a line on something your needing or willing to help they know how far away you are from it.

Too long, different cab mounts, different spring mounts in the rear, different engine mounts. It won't work

Anything can be made to work with enough time and money.

Why not build your own frame you should still be able to buy the parts like the frame mounts for the engine and suspension

car-part.com! I'm in the middle of my own frame swap and was able to find one via the search engine there.

Just Curious How far south did you need to go to find a good one.

Thing is with that generation of frame unless you spend time spraying and cleaning things unless your idea of winter is 60 Degrees and Sunny

    Your only buying time .

My 2000 came from Central Texas never saw Winter the 3rd Spring I was fixing the frame deciding if I should just build a new one

Would a frame from a truck with the same engine but different transmission or drivetrain fit?

It should, because I know you can convert to manual trans if you have an auto with just a trans mount change.

Ok, what if my truck is 4wd and I use a frame from a 2wd?

Suspension mounts may be different. I'm not positive. Unless it's a Prerunner. That'll work

If the donor frame in question has wheels with only 5 lug nuts it will be a lot more work.
