I would guess that the dealer and Toyota NA are reading this forum ... as it is discoverable in legal proceedings.

If you could put a bug in "Toyota Japan" to read this ... some interesting things might happen.

All you need is an email address at Toyota Headquarters in Japan ... to open their eyes.

I can't help but think that the "right people" in regional and NA corporate don't know what's going on here ??

This is becoming "beyond bizarre" and could make a "big splash" in industry publications and national news.

I know a person who wrote to Honda in Japan ... and that got things moving very fast.

This is starting to embarrass me owning a Toyota product and I am a Toyota fan for many years buying many Toyota products ... I just can't figure this one out.

So the truck is driving normally then... that's pretty much how mine performs

If that's "normal" then this is not the truck for me. Before I took it to the dealership, I had a lot more go. I feel like I have to depress the accelerator at least 1/2 way before getting any movement from the car. Just doesn't feel right at all. I had more impulse from the 4banger Rav4 and that's saying something because that thing was a damned slug.

Went to step into the truck tonight and my interior lights no longer turn on when I open a door. The cab just stays dark.
Ugh....Going to do another test drive now that the sun is down.

Dumb question but is the switch in the correct position?

Not a dumb question -- I'm known to do some dim-witted things!
Well, the interior lights will come on when I screw with the headlights. But whenever I would open the door after dark, the cab lights would slowly ramp up without me touching the headlight control. I always have that thing set to auto.

Piggyback on stupid question with another: Pretty sure there is a switch on (or near) the dome light inside the truck, if you have it set to off, they will not turn on when you open the doors. You can also set it to "ON" when doors are open or "ON all the time" regardless of doors open or shut. Check for that switch if you have not.

Just keep in the back of your mind that this truck has issues and will never be the same. You'll get your new truck just try not to use this individual truck as the basis for all of the other 2016 Tacomas that have been produced. I'm sure that will be difficult but if you choose another Tacoma I'm sure you'll be happy. For those of you wondering I do not work for Toyota. I'm just a happy owner of a 16.

Well, all she has to do is connect her trailer back on and take for a hill ride to see if it breaks down again? or spring a leak or show some other problems. Especially do this if you're going to keep it as a long term vehicle.

Also, when she goes back, perhaps ask to test drive one of the unsold new tacoma's off the lot with one of service writer or advisor and check and compare if they are as sluggish as this one. That would tell the difference right there in their faces, and if her problems is indeed real, they'd take it back to the shop again without a hassle.

As much as I would like to know the quality of the repair done by the dealer. I would probably just tread lightly as far as using it to tow. I know it would be nice to test the capabilities of the truck but dealing with the hassle of another break down would suck.

Interior lights are fine....goodness. Thanks for telling me to look for that switch, it was definitely on the off position.
Yeah, I'd like to test drive a brand new one and see how it compares. I can't help but feel like I'm fighting now to get up such minor hills. I just drove it around again and when I switch to standard and drop a gear, it feels right where it should be. Higher engine pick up, smarter acceleration.

I dunno. Now I'm starting to doubt it. Maybe it was a little luggy the whole time. I came from an 07 Ford Ranger and I remember saying WOW when I would really pin this Tacoma and take off. It was significant. Now I'm unimpressed with anything it does. Even pinning it on the freeways. I can't seem to get that same wow factor or "jump" from the take off.

    ....Maybe I'm just telling myself that I need a v8. ;]

She got a new short block put in, therefore she must follow the original break in. No towing for 500 miles.

Did you press the ETC button and compare? You should probably be using it when trailering anyway.

I hope you still plan to hold Toyota's feet to the fire and get a new truck. If blown engine isn't definiton of lemon, I don't know what is.

By itself, a blown engine isn't the *definition of a lemon. It has only been because they took too long to replace the short block that it is becoming lemon law applicable. Had they been able to replace the short block quickly there would be no case, unless that doesn't fix the issue.

Hope the OP has gotten this resolved.

I find it interesting that a lemon law attorney would advise her to wait before hiring a lawyer to handle the situation.

A family member just went through this with a BMW. He called a lawyer, lawyer said as soon as it was out of his hands for 30 days he had a slam-dunk case to get the vehicle bought back. At least in CA, per the lawyer that he used, the vehicle manufacturer pays the lemon law lawyer, not the vehicle owner. In his case, the whole deal took maybe two weeks, the lawyer handled the whole thing. The lawyer also advised him to pick the vehicle up when the repairs were complete, he said that was critical. The BMW drove perfect afterwards, he simply didn't want it anymore after seeing it in a million pieces.

I know OP doesn't need another armchair lawyer chiming in, but after seeing my family member deal with this, I would be asking an attorney to handle the whole thing, only if they are willing to take their payment from Toyota. It sure sounds like that shouldn't be a problem.

    Good luck.

I think the idea was that if the op could get Toyota to handle it with just her Toyota may be willing to speed up the process since it is a losing battle for them and would save them the legal fees involved with having to pay their inside council, her attorney, arbitration fees, and ultimately the cost of a new truck.

1)If you are referring to me, you are incorrect. I offered FREE advice to OP in post #348, my first post in this thread. OP never reached out to me. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/truck-broke-down-today.427560/page-18#post-12414078
    2) I said it many times in this thread, once 30 days passed, it IS A SLAM DUNK.
    3) I also mentioned in this thread, that she should get the vehicle, as signing for the vehicle at the dealership, doesn't have any bearing on her issues. The fight is with Toyota NA not the dealership.

It seemed OP didn't WANT to hire a lawyer and wanted to do it herself, which in CA it is pretty easy to do.
Additionally, I am not a lawyer that tells EVERYONE ELSE to lawyer up, just for the sake of it.
Lastly, I have lemoned 3 personal BMW of mine since 2001. BMW is one of the easiest/quickest company to deal with in CA.
