Interesting. I'd like to see how this comes out. No color variations on the links, panhard, steering links? That'd be too much black, IMO.

The semi is pretty close to what the frame looks like from the factory, it was just put down in that pic so its wet and there is light directly on it. Don't trip though, we got a plan.

We had some good pics and some tech going from Qrtrtilt, i thought i left TW for a second...

    And now im back LOL........

Never knew that painting the running gear was such an ordeal and required color coordination...

@Qrtrtilt what thickness metal did you use on the pan notching? Just found out yesterday that im going to have to notch out the whole front of my oil pan.

I worked in a paint shop for several years, applied finishes ,proper prep and the final paint scheme to me are just as important as the weld and fabrication. I hate spending weeks building something just to have a crap finish dripped and spattered all over it. :D

The oil pan itself is 16 ga. I used some cardboard to make twmplates then I used 14ga I cut and bent using the plasma table and mag break. I spent a lot of time getting the fit just right. So I could tig weld it up. The oil pan is pretty flimsy and once you cut it up it can easily get warped. Clamping to the table and welding in sequence will help with that. I used a tig and pulser feature to weld it up both inside and out. I smoothed out all the outside welds for looks and did a leak down test on it to make sure it holds. It's a bit of a process.

@slander here's a few pics. Hope that helps. You can mig weld it too but it's easier with a tig. I have mig'ed a few before as well.

How much oil do you lose to this mod? And does the lower total volume matter?

There's several different take on that question.

I will give the long answer cause I am a gear head haha but maybe it'll help out.

The stock Tacoma pan held 5.5 quarts ~ this pan is off a t-100 which used 6.5 ~ quarts. I have never done the thematic to verify I think I might tho. I removed about .75~ a quart in the notches with my calcs.

So here's where it gets fun

There's several options available. To make sure you have enough volume or the total specified capacity.

The oil filter of a 2uz 4.7 liter v-8 Toyota will fit as will one off a Jeep 3.7. All are larger then the factory Tacoma filter which will hold the extra oil if you need it. However I am not to worried about personally. I would run it this way with out a issue. Because the pan I showed above is the larger t-100 pan. Hope that helps

    Well at least
Cool thanks. Im going to be migging it with my hobart 140 at 1 or 2, tack tack tacking away and see how it goes. Luckly i only have to notch the front of the pan since i have some overseas hi lux model pan with a fat indentation for the diff.

Super cool. What rear springs are those and can I ask why are they set back so far? Also is that it for your exhaust or are you adding to it? Sorry not trying to sound like I'm nit picking I'm just asking.
