I started my truck up today and the oil light and traction control light was on. it was not the light when you cut it on and off it was another one. I went and had it scanned and it was c1201 and p0456. he said the one could be gas cap and they could not tell me what the other one was. they said just to remove battery cables and reset it. I did and they both went off. I checked my gas cap and it was not on very tight.

When you reset codes by disconnecting the battery they can take several hours of driving (or about a week on average) before the ECU can detect the issue again.

Did the codes pop up again or have they stayed off?

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
P codes are generic to all brands, and that's all the scanner used is capable of (parts house guy or something, right?)

Other codes can be OE specific or at least have different meanings across various OEs. Like this http://www.aboutautomobile.com/DTC/C1201

Clearing it is ok. Doesn't mean it won't return.

If you had an alignment recently you will need to clear a code of your wheel wasn't set at 0 during the alignment: besides that ABS could affect it or any disconnect of a sensor. Check your codes.

So you got a CEL because your gas cap was loose ? Why are you asking about s traction control recall ?

The traction control light and usually the ABS light come on if there is a CEL code in the system

    Please explain.

I'm not getting the linkage between an alignment and DTCs

I couldn't even if I tried. On my 2015 I had that issue after an alignment. Cleared the code and solved the problem

The vsc zero point calibration needs to be done after an alignment

^^i had this problem with my 2015 as well. i have had three alignments since i have had the truck. each and every time i got it aligned, either the 4wd indicator light, or the traction control light would illuminate. and i had to go spend $60 at the dealership to get the codes cleared. thats the only fix that worked for me each time. its a pain in the ass.

They didn't do the alignment properly then. Is what I leaned. They should clear the codes where they caused the issue no?
