And what, pray tell, was wrong with the heated seat display in a 1980's SAAB? I only ask because I owned SAAB's from 1977 thru 1991 and loved everything about them.

Just reiterating the common complaints I've seen here on the forum in regards to the interior.

I was referring to the overall aesthetic of the interior. I think the best design attributes on the Tacoma are the interior. Whoever the lead engineer was the for interior should have also designed the outside of the truck.

I would be nice to pick the exact options and build a custom truck from the factory.....I wanted a manual tranny with moonroof on the access cab. Not crazy about the double cab or short bed, need bed space but don't want to drive a semi. Even so, I still love my taco just the way it is!

The automatic was driving me crazy but since I finally convinced the dealer to check it (.6 Low on fluid) its been a completely different truck. They also reset the transmission learning. Since having both of those done, it performs much more like I'd expect it to. There are still some odd times (usually with cruise) but its nothing like it used to be. I also went from averaging 17.4 MPG to right around 20 MPG. Last night on my way home I averaged 23.5 over 86 miles (mostly flat, cruise at 70) according to the in dash display (which has been +/- 1 mpg of real world mpg for me)

That's not right man! It's covered under warranty. You can't settle for a new rig with a transmission that slips!

Mine shifts erratically just driving through the neighborhood. For instance lets say I turn the corner, speed up to 35 mph then a dog runs across the road so I have to take my foot off the gas, barely ping the brake then the dog clears the road (so at this point I've lost maybe 10mph by barely braking and just taking foot off accelerator) when I go back to accelerate the RPMs jump up to 3000+ yet no feel of acceleration for about 1 to 2 seconds, then it finally switches into gear and RPMs drop. It's like the tranny out-thinks itself and downshifts but then will not shift back up in a timely manner once throttle is applied.

I took mine to the dealer and asked them to check the fluid, offered to pay if found full. There was no customer area for viewing so I left the truck for the night and came back next day. Guy said it was full but said he felt bad and didn't want me to pay the full $130 so I paid $65. Later I got home to check the bolts on the transmission, I painted them before taking in. They were still the same untouched. So I called customer care at corporate. They gave me a song and dance for about a week, whispered sweet nothings in my ear, asked me to bring it to another dealer...meanwhile I checked it myself with a buddy who is a mechanic, we found not only the trans to be over a quart low but also the rear differential fluid was low. I told all this to corporate but they kept dancing the same jig. I killed them with kindness anyway, and hinted around (then eventually asked) for an extended warranty--they basically laughed at me. So yeah it's been filled and it still shifts like shit and Toyota won't do dick about it.

Yes that's the problem and the dealer isn't going to spend 2 or 3 days test driving the vehicle to get the problem to pop up.

I am baffled with the way Toyota is handling some of your guy's issues.

I hate to say it, but I went with wish I bought something else. To be fair I do love the truck, it's not the list of issues that's killing it for me, it's the fact that Toyota and my dealer wont do shit about them. I understand nothing is perfect, but they literately tip toe around every issue! It's very frustrating., especially when I rely on the truck for work and have very limited amounts of time to take it in and have to convince them that something is wrong.

I've got my 10k mile service set up for tomorrow, I'm going to pressure the issue one more time, then I'm getting ugly.

Is there another dealership you can visit? There are 3 dealerships in my town (and 7 within 50 miles), but only one has truly exemplary service.

Yes, and partly my fault for not doing that, but between running/owning my business, the wife and two small kids, I simply don't have the time to keep running around. I've had it in the shop 3 time before 1000 miles, have already contact Toyota corp and keep getting the runaround. The two dealers within 45 mins, both suck so I don't have much confidence taking it to another dealer! Fred Anderson Toyota in Charleston and Rick Hendricks Toyota in North Charleston. Both dealers have at least 2-3 day wait to even get the truck in.

I'm extremely pleased with my truck. Shifting has smoothed out a little after about 1200 miles on it. Love the interior and the features. A solid truck IMO that i'd recommend to friends and family.

Absolutely love my Tacoma ,and yes you need to get a good dealership to get the oil check in the trans then you just love it more ,it does great on gas mine do like 24 mpg ( 9.5 l/100 k ) on a fairly slow comute ( 40 to 50 mph ) but it does not like going 80 mph it still a truck with the aerodynamics of a truck aint no Prius

Its not just Toyota service that sucks, its that way across the board and expecting to find service at a dealer is simply a thing of the past. The reason they get away with it is because they all do it and as fast as they piss you off forcing you to buy another brand, the other brand is pissing their customers off sending them to Toyota. Its just a rotation of customers, who care's if their past customers or new, as long as their walking into the door. Its how it works now, welcome to the modern age of legally screwing people over and getting away with it.
