I have the Flex-a-Lite dual electric fans and I've been having overheating issues when in 4lo and using my AC. Not entirely sure it's due to the fans just yet, going to do a radiator flush and have my AC system checked....but something to be wary of. Mine for some reason are manually activated via a switch in my cab, most e-fans are automatically triggered by the thermostat.

Though not a 1st Gen I had a Flexalite in my 05 and had the same issues with overheating. I went back to OEM on the side of the road in Moab and its been fine since. I think the electric fan deal just does not provide enough CFM to get the job done?

    Sounds cool though. o_O

Yes sir I drove out from Washington, DC and had cooling issues the whole way especially crossing over the Rockies. When we got into Moab we hit up one run then I said F it and 15 minutes later the swap back was done.

I made a shroud to fit the OEM one and all but was still not enough.

Nice, that's impressive. That about seals the deal for me, I'm going to switch back to the stock fan clutch. Especially with the hot summer wheeling coming up.

@01Tacomacamburg4win, this is something to consider if you do a lot of wheeling. I've heard good things performance-wise about electric fans but it seems they don't hold up as well for off-roading conditions.

I got a real taurus 2 speed fan (CFM unknown but its up there for sure) and it ran fine for 5 years. i actually got better mpg (1 more to 20 from 19) with it.
i mated it to a stock shroud and just used the lower speed option. so far trips to SFO from LAX, up big bear, and such, no issues.

i love the how quickly it quiets down at first start in the morning since there's no roar of the fan.

it handles my AC fine too on a hot day.
my temp normally stays at 191F and going up the mountain goes up to 204F but no further and quickly goes back down when it levels off.
towing also not a problem around town. havent tried towing up the mountain tho.

my variable speed controller did fail last december after 5+ yrs and manufacturer ( dccontrol ) is helping me fix it right now.

the only bad thing probably with the taurus fan is it does require a lot of power. so i had to upgrade to a 140amp alt.

Unless your swap is going to cause clearance issues I find electric fans to be nothing but problems!!

I have converted more vehicles back to stock and thrown dozens of electric fans in the trash.

I think it is one of those Keep up with the Neighbors things
