    Next time, I highly recommend TRS' RetroRubber to reseal. Consistency and material is very OEM like! Never liked OCI stuff

    Just a few LEDs...
    There is a much easier way that will not damage the plastic. Spray a generous coating of foaming oven cleaner on the chrome bezels and it will dissolve the chrome and leave a clean finish. I used Easy-Off on mine. Just spray and let sit. You might have to rinse and do it a second time to get all of the chrome off.

    Hmm...You know I never thought about it, but I bet it would. The chrome is probably much thicker on the emblems so it may take a few treatments but oven cleaner is pretty cheap. I believe the main ingredient is sodium hydroxide (Lye) so you might even be able to use something more concentrated on the emblems like Draino crystal drain cleaner in a glass dish.

    A word of caution though! That shit is caustic and will eat a hole right through you. So be careful.

    Easy off works great. Been using it for awhile on all of my bezels, shrouds, and reflector bowls. I do agree, it's pretty damn strong and the smell is not easy either lol

    Oh the oven cleaner isn't too bad, I was just giving a warning about using the drain cleaner on emblems because it is much much more concentrated.

    Hey guys I know this page hasn't been used for a while but I'm really wanting to do this to my truck. My only problem is that my truck is an 05 so that means all the parts are 11 years old.. I'm afraid that all the plastic will be too brittle and just break. If anyone has any advice that'd be great.

    I don't really have a specific part I'm worried about breaking I just imagine the plastic as a whole being fragile and weathered. But if you guys had no problems I think I'll give it a try. I think I'll run up to Home Depot or Lowes and look for the window weld. Did you guys use butyl? Thanks for your help I'll post pics when I'm done

    3m butyl works, but can get messy. Great if it's last minute and you can't wait. If you can wait, I prefer OEM like, such as TRS' RetroRubber. And it comes in grey

    Just wanted to add my 2¢
    Things I did differently
    1. I pried the housing open with my hands. The plastic bent a bit more than I liked with the screwdriver.
    2. I did both lights at the same time. I put one in at a time, opened it and placed the next one. While I waited I started to scrape the old sealant while it was still hot.
    3. A screwdriver works fine to remove the old sealant. Just keep it clean by sticking the left overs on to a ball of just removed sealant.
    4. Keep your hands clean. The oil from your fingertips will mess with the paint.
    5. Right before painting I used t.s.p. To clean the all the parts to be painted.
    6. I wrapped my left arm with plastic and held the parts from the back while painting the whole time.
    7. Clean the inside of the clear plastic cover with a lens cleaning cloth to grab all the dust right before re-installing. I forgot to and now have a couple of my dogs hairs inside
    8. Most of your time will be spent on cleaning out the old sealant. What I did was pre heat to 300 turn off and place piece inside for 5 min. Remove one piece from the oven and place the next one inside. As soon as you feel the sealant start to harden just swap them (one in oven one to work on) this way your not really waiting for anything
