Do what makes you happy lol. The Fords took a while to grow on me but they finally did. My only issue with Ford is they have a million different engines and they seem to be always changing them out. Lots of people have good luck with them though but I know that have had issues but that comes with any truck. It's always a gamble.

What do you want a truck for? OffRoad, hauling, towing, family hauler, luxury, rugged?

On the 16's you keep hearing the very vocal minority on this forum. Myself and a lot of my friends who own 16's are really happy with the 16's. So test it out before you blanket it and write it off. I'm glad Toyota bought your truck back though hope whatever you go with works out for you.

Sorry about your luck with your most recent truck, OP. Curious to your decisions to change manafacturers based of one of nine vehicles. Seems rash, but I'm not in your shoes so I can't judge.

Working at a dealership, STAY AWAY FROM CHEVY. Oh my gosh they're cancer. The "big 3" all have their flaws, but I swear those 2000 era Chevy trucks are junk. Water pumps, pitman arms/tie rods, spark plugs, fuel pumps. Don't even get me started on the G80 grenade. I can't judge on diesels (I've driven maybe 2 Cummins/Duramax and 6 or so F250s), we don't get enough to judge, but I like the new F250s. They're huge though, but that's a normal diesel thing haha.

I'm not a fan of dodge, either. Their interior is the same level of trashy after 2-3 years as Chevy. Ford gets a solid 4-5 (besides buttons fading) of regular use before the interior is trashed. My 2004 Tacoma interior is still nicer than most of the big 3 trucks we get in, and the owner was in Hawaii and I off road every weekend.

Personally, I'd stick with Toyota. If you feel salt about the Tacoma, I'd understand. Toyota really f***ed up with the leafs, but I wouldn't let that turn you around. Tundras are excellent vehicles, those 5.7s have some real cahones, but the mpg is less than par. Those 4Runners have done some serious work at Hidden Falls as well.

Good luck with your truck search! Can't change taste, and if you like the truck you're buying then all the more reason to peruse it! I like the Big Horn interiors, but that's initial quality, as stated above..

I have a 2016 Sierra Denali crew cab and it's amazing. Extremely quiet inside, has more features than I would ever need, the led headlights are Nicer than hids, and I got the 6.2L corvette engine so it has some serious balls. It rides really nice with the magnetic ride control and tows quite well. I wish I would have bought the diesel for what I do in hindsight, but I'm stuck with this now. I really like it though.

9 Toyotas and 1 bad apple has spoiled the whole bunch? Okay...

Having been in several Fords with the Ecoboost engines I will say those are some top notch engines. As far as their quality who knows.

Just get a 16 or 17 Tacoma. If you know someone with a 16 drive it instead of testdriving a new one. They drive really nicely after being broken in.

    Let the hate.....begin

I was the dealership today and they had a 2016 TRD Pro 4 Runner in quicksand. That is one impressive vehicle and I'd seriously consider one when it's time to get rid of the Tacoma.

They are nice dont get me wrong i wanted one, but i know a few people with 16s and have the same leaf spring issue, and i refuse to live through another 12k miles with that noise, and they seem a little sluggish compared to the 15s, but that is my opinion.

If i had to buy a real truck, it'd be gmc/Chevy. I've had two high mileage Chevys, 2002 and 2005 that had a combined 360k on them and they both worked great when i sold them. Had to fix up some previous owner neglect on the 02 and the 05 had one emissions thing that i replaced to the tune of $15.

Friends purchased dodges and fords at the same time and always had goofy issues like wiring, shitty paint...

If it helps, we haven't had any '16s in with leaf spring issues yet. Then again cause it's been less than a year  I can only speak based on the dealership I work for though, but we do some serious volume per month.

Did you test drive any F-150s or Silverado 1500s yet. If I were staying on the street, I'd go 1500. But since you want manageable ground clearance, the f-150 might fit your bill. If you want to give Toyota another try, I suggest 4Runners. Toyota doesn't put money into the Tacoma. They dump it into the 4Runner and Tundra.

My dad owns a tundra and i like them, but they are expensive, amd the 4runner trail i would take in a heartbeat, but again expensive, and the towing could be better, the f150 i have yet to test drive but they have everything i am looking for.

There was another guy on here recently who had the same problem with squeaky leafs in Florida. I wonder what happened to his truck. See if you can find his thread and find out what happened with his truck and dealing with Toyota corporate.
