Thank you. I actually got a lot of the same measurement tube just to practice with the extra sheet metal. I cant afford to "pratice" on the actual doors haha. Thanks for the input!

Built this rear bumper, gonna have the tire ratchet strap mounts on there soon.

Main structure, ignore the half bald/tread tires lol

    Frame Mounts

Upper hoop, bolts to where the tailgate clips would be.
    IMAG0091.jpg

Bottom hoop, welded to the base structure.
    IMAG0114.jpg

Then connected the two and used some stainless sheet as a license plate mount and a cool little light/bolt for the license plate light.

This is how it looks on paper, gonna get the frame mount measurements and then make a 3D model.

    Yes
Have you thought about just welding tabs to your tube doors so you can simply bolt on those panels and then they will still be removeable if you want / need to remove them for a better view when crawling ?

I like Jason's thinking ^^^ but if you're going that route, I'd do 1/4 turn Zeus fasteners.

I've always been worried about those vibrating off on the trail.

although thats a great idea that I did not think of, I was committed to the welding since I liked the look regardless, AND its my first welding project for the truck haha

    driver side door.jpg

got the driver side door done. once I mock these up with the passenger side, ill have WAY better templates so ill have to do less back and forth cutting/checking measurement.

    then just to weld

Dirt bikes and a lot of race cars run them without issues. They are actually pretty sturdy and require effort to get undone.

Cool deal, maybe I'll use them when I make my new sheet metal door panels, probably have to get some mat, they'll vibrate like crazy.

The sheet metal itself might near the center but the fasteners won't if that's what your thinking.

So did you think about doing the bolt on tabs or are you still going to weld the sheets in? Tabs would be an easier beginner project, IMO.

im goin all in with the welding. i actually bought a welder and EVERYTHING that goes with it for this to be my first true "fabrication" project. I did not think about the tab idea until the other member said it and I def like the idea, but the look in my head when the doors are finished is what im going for...may be dumb but im excited for it, and I know itll be a marathon as I avoid the warping problem but thats a problem for tomorrow haha

just make sure to move around the panel often. weld in one inch sections at a time and move to the opposite side and so on. If you have access to compressed air, it'll help cool your welds and the surrounding sheet metal as you move along.
