Strange thing is that I've been googling '1996 Tacoma TRD e-locker' and I keep seeing links and sites saying that the e-locker didn't come as an option until 97 or 98...then there are a few guys saying that there's have it. Have you owned your truck since it was new? I'm wondering if maybe the previous owner had to put a new dashboard on it and used one from a later model TRD Tacoma and that's why nothing is happening when you press the button...

Not saying that's the case but it's just weird that I can't find any official confirmation one way or the other that the 96's came with one...do you have a pic of your differential? It looks like this:

Well shit. Definitely don't have that...

I got the truck earlier this year and have since found tons of problems with it that the previous owner failed to mention. I guess it's a learning experience though; on the bright side it still runs great.

haha no worries dude, it happens. I don't know why it finally dawned on me to ask, I should've mentioned it earlier lol.

On the bright side if you ever want to install one, you already have the switch for it :D You'd have to swap in the whole axle though as the e-locker is exclusive to the TRD axles.

Yeah me too. A while back I got stuck and tried using it in 4lo and I noticed that still only one wheel would spin... That got me wondering
Anyway thanks for the help, I don't plan on having this truck for all that long(gonna upgrade when I get a real job) so Im not trying to do any mods that are too expensive, just trying to learn as much as I can.
