posted this under tonneau cover forum but only got one response. trying to decide between the two. I like that the g4 is lockable nd you can open it from both ends. any opinions? I've noticed most have the extang. also, I do not want to do any bed modification.

I went worth a truxedo trux port. Price is excellent and is been great. No bed modification needed and can't be opened if you lock your tail gate. It is a roll up cover though, and I think most guys on here like the hard top tri folds. For me the roll up cover can be taken out of the way so much faster and easier when you want to use the bed.

I've got the G4 and I love it! Looks great, not too hard to put on (although their instructions could be a little more clear), fairly easy to remove if needed, and seems very secure.

I don't have any good pics yet. I'll try to snap a couple tonight if the weather cooperates. I'll ask for forgiveness in advance for the dirty truck. :) We've had crappy weather just about every evening for the last couple of weeks. I haven't been motivated to put the effort into cleaning her up, just to have a rain storm mess it up a couple of hours later.

The G4s just came out so not a ton of people have them yet. I've had mine for a few weeks. Love it! Got real hard rain last night and very, very minimal water got in.

Chesney beat me to it but here's a picture of mine. I love it! I can't say that it's completely waterproof because of the gaps in the corners of the bed, but that isn't the G4's fault. It's just the way the bed is designed. I'm sure something could be done to fill the gaps, but I'm not worried about it ... it's a truck bed. :DIMG_0267.jpg

glider is right. the only places I have water getting in is at the front corners at the gaps in the bed. water is only minimal and the few drops that do get in stay under my bed mat. I might add a little bit of silicone there or add a piece I have left over from the tsulfate seal.

Looks like I'll be buying a G4 from what I can see on here. Been debating for awhile between it and the Extang but haven't seen anyone on here have any real problems with the G4. And I like that you can open it from each end. Thanks to the OP for putting this question out there.

1st try in another section didn't work so well. Glad this one did, as I have made my decision as well.

Does the G4 remove the functionality of the bed rails?

No. They have a T-nut (1 bolt) at the very front on each side for the front latches, and another T-nut (two bolts) on each side, about a quarter of the way back for security. The rest of the bed rails are unobstructed. That's part of why I like it so much. My bed divider still works great!

Damn it. My Extang just got here today. The video I watched on the G4 appeared that the bed rails would be functionless. Oh well, sticking with the Extang for now. I like how simple it is to install and remove when needed.

Yeah, I think I saw the same video and I was worried about giving up my bed rails, but when it arrived the hardware was a little different from what the video showed. I think they redesigned the install hardware after the video was made. I would say at least 3/4 of the rail is still good to go. As for ease of removal, I think you're right about the Extang. The G4 isn't too bad to remove (4 bolts) but I think the Extang is probably a little easier, at least from what I've seen.

It was cheaper as well. I like the locking latches better on the G4, but the Extang seems pretty secure.

I could probably have the Extang off in 20-30 seconds by myself if needed. Too late to return it now!

I have an extang solid fold and it has always leaked like crazy...it is 1.5 years old

    Mine:
    https://youtu.be/cyVMyco7a9k

    Another guys:
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0pp6PcRRdNU

    And another:
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8puGzeuZ7L8

Extang was not very polite about it... I told them that it was not an isolated incident and that I did not have confidence in the design... No refund... Got an offer for a seal kit after being told that I somehow caused seal separation. I told them that I did not pay 850 bucks to have another project... Local dealership took over and is getting me a new cover... Supposedly a new model... I am skeptical...

I was going to get the Extang 2.0 but I heard some members had some issues with the Extang 2.0 bubbling up.
