I think you are a bit confused. Read the Toyota Tacoma options list. The perm tech package and JBL are separate options for DBL cab configuration You can't get the JBL without perm tech package but you can get the perm tech package without JBL

On Toyotas site, p/t package is about 3k for DC trucks and 2100 for access cab.

Definitely not worth it. You end up ripping out all the components including the stereo and amp just to get what you really deserve sound quality-wise in the end. You also end up spending more money in the end on the aftermarket components because you can't replace just one thing on it.

Was a deal breaker without the JBL The $700 extra well worth it especially those of us who like to keep things stock.

May be too early to tell but with the 3rd gen, do they go bad over time like the 2nd gen's? Mine and other people's I've read makes an odd noise once it hits a certain tone or frequency.

If you are talking about the sub wearing out, yes it will wear over time. There could be other factors that cause nasty tones with the sub.

They can eat a fat one then. :)

Those artifacts and clipping you and others may hear (I heard it a lot on mine before it fried during the time it was in the truck) is the amplifier struggling to keep up at certain frequencies. The amps are just underpowered at higher volumes.

the prem tech package is a joke.

    so not worth it.

i got a 4cyl with manual windows and door locks. no camera screen in rearview mirror, no cruise control, etc.

but hey i saved $10k in the process so it's worth it in the end. truck is paid off.
