Hi guys, just signed up. I've always had 03 silverados, but finally broke the trend and got a base model 4x4 2014 tacoma. Don't know as much about the 4.0 liters in particular. Don't know where the most effective place to start is, I've seen the cold air intakes coupled with exhaust mods might not be the best? Just looking for minor mods for performance and suspension. Let me know people! Looking to start on a bad ass little taco lol.

Haha, I've looked into it a little, around 5000 i's what I've been seeing. I was wondering if maybe some smaller scale things first. It honestly kinda suprised me they put a supercharger on a v6, kinda cool haha. What about suspension fitting 31" tires that doesn't make the front end angles look like a V?

Far as I know 31s should fit stock?
Maybe in wrong, someone correct me if I'm wrong. For 33"s it's a 3 inch with some trimming.

Since you have a base model, you have what's known as a 5Lug. Your suspension setup is a lot different than most 6Lugs. You might have to ask your question in the 5Lug section to get more response for suspension upgrades.

Oh see yeah I didn't catch that. I figure base model was like just Sr5 4x4 no fancy stuff.

I've only had the truck a couple of weeks, and I've been next to trd and I guess sr5 models? They all seem to sit a bit higher, tires didn't look much bigger, but the other trucks have a couple inch clearance. I know chevy 2500s come with a small body lift to clear transmission, didn't know if different tacoma models were the same way

Pretty sure it was a contractor truck kinda deal, now I know it's a dumb question, but what does the lug refer to? I'm guessing not the lug pattern lol

TRDs and SR5s sit higher than Base models from factory not because it's lifted, but because their entire suspension is setup differently. I don't know much about 5Lugs other than they're on base models, they sit lower, and they don't have much aftermarket support at all.

The trucks is 6 lug, I haven't taken the time to really look through it and become familiar with it. It might fit 31s, it seems like it already has a slight inward angle at the bottom. Think that's camber, always get the 3 mixed up lol.

Oh if your truck is already a 6 lug, then you should be able to fit 31s no problem.

Welcome aboard. The best piece of advice I can give you would be to do your research as much as you can on mods that you would like. Buy once, cry once. If you get stuck or need help, don't be afraid to ask. There's a lot of good people here and a ton of useful information, which means you have some reading to do. Just keep in mind that if you haven't done your legwork, some people here will call you out on it.
The best place to get first hand information is to go to meets with some locals in your area (speaking of- where are you located?) and actually see what they are running and talk to people about what they like or don't like about their particular setup. That should give you a headstart. Can I assume that you're a welder by your screen name and avatar? Those skills are in high demand around here, so you might make some friends real quick. Trade labor for labor and you'll be up and running in no time.

Don't know if the picture can really help identify anything, but I could fit them if I took flaps off or trimmed.

    You sure got 6 lugs.

Hmm maybe only 2WD Base models are 5lug?

My bad OP, I was mistaken.

Ghost ship, thanks for the greeting man, I'm located in VA around Richmond area, unfortunately haven't really ran into many meets except occasional mud runs and such. I know what you mean about the leg work aspect, I've just been working with 03 silverados for so long, never really looked into anything else. I do custom fab on the side and have done parts for my own trucks, and Ive looked into long travel and suspensions and everything. Just a new world with tacomas lol.

And duststorm, its all good dude, but that doesn't affect the 4wd suspension on a base model still being 6 lug does it?

Nah, all 6lugs have the same suspension whether it be 2WD or 4WD.

Ok, just wanted to make sure I didn't pull off the worst buy ever lol. I got really nervous there for a second.
