Stant Instant-Fill Capless Fuel Adapter

Thats kinda cool, if it works.

 

Been putting these on Fords for a few years. Didn't realize Stant was making them for other applications. Neat!

 

Can't use it for my Taco, because I need a locking cap. I bought one for the Subaru, which has a locking fuel door. The Subaru has a different 1/2-turn thread design, so it needs Stant P/N 41004 instead of 41001. Fits fine. Started up the car and idled for a couple of minutes, no Check Engine light.

 

Made two trips, each about half hour long with mixture of highway and city, then filled up the tank. No Check Engine light.

 

Interesting. I can't seem to find the right one for a 2nd gen tacoma

 

I honestly can not remember the last time I fueled my own truck...

 

Still weirds me out that you can't fuel your own vehicle in OR, almost ran out of fuel going to Crater lake because no one was open and all pumps were locked for a couple of towns in a row

Not sure I like these, they come standard on newer f-150s we needed to fuel up one with a gas can and it spilled everywhere out of a bypass that is built in. then grabbed the fuel can spout. They are made for gas pumps only. Eventually we found a transmission fluid funnel that worked but not before we got a piece of plastic wedged it the spring loaded aperture and had to fish it out.
Advantage? No more lost fuel caps.
Disadvantage? Pain/impossible to fuel up with anything but gas pump at station

 

Our new Ford Explorer patrol cars are like this from the factory. It really weirded me out at first, but it does save the step of removing the cap.

 

If you make it someone will buy it if you market it correctly !!

I myself can`t see a reason but if one thinks it is one of those gotta haves I own stock in Stant so thanks for your support

 

It has to allow dirt to fall into the tank. I know my current cap gets quite a bit of road salt and dirt on it in the winter. With a recess in the cap, I'd think it would allow more to collect on it and then the pump nozzle would push it into the tank. Maybe not enough to clog a filter but..., also, I believe the Tacoma's filtering system is in the tank and not meant to be serviced like a regular fuel filter.

 

So 5 years later, are we getting the engine light?

 

These are problems waiting to happen similar to Ford's capless system, this will eventually trigger check engine lights as the locking door seal and mechanism will eventually stick partially open.

Besides, it's Stant, and Stant is nowhere near the same quality they once used to be. Made in China baby.

 

For those who have issues filling up fords with a gas can, if you bother to read the manual you will discover the vehicle comes with a funnel for this very purpose that is located with the spare tire tools, assuming no one throw it away of course.

Yes we do have to replace the capless part sometimes, but its pretty damn rare, like even the senior master techs at my dealer aren't good at replacing them since we so rarely do that job(jobs done often you get better/faster at).
Saying its a bad design that should be avoided cause it eventually fails can be applied to pretty much everything in the world.

 

Agreed! We had a 2012 fusion for about 8 years without any issues. Worked on many Fords (and other brands) and have rarely seen an issue with Ford's system, even on strictly farm use trucks that a beaten to a pulp. Besides, the funnel is right next to the jack for the spare tire!!! I believe theres even a label on the fuel door when you open it.

I have no comment on the Stant part, great idea to me though! I haven't been impressed with their radiator caps in the past though.
