mileage too high?

I found a sweet lifted 2000 tacoma for a good price but I'm worried about the miles. It has 190000 miles on it but it says the condition is good and in the pictures it looks good too. Any feedback would help.
    Thanks

pffft, that's chump change for a first gen

In all seriousness though, that is technically on the high end even for a Tacoma. But, Tacomas (especially the 95-2004 models) have been known to last well into the high 200's-300's...and even above in some cases.

If it is truly in good condition, and by that I mean all the maintenance has been done regularly and religiously, and the frame is solid (Tacomas are notorious for frame rust in cold climate regions) then I say go for it, assuming the price is right. Also, make sure that any of the mods (like the lift) have been done well and not on the cheap. Cheap mods not only jeopardize the reliability of the vehicle but also speak to the overall care the current owner had toward it.

That's what I was thinking, just going for it. But the last thing I need is to be breaking down all the time. I don't have the time or money for that.

Yup, like I said be sure it's in good shape for the mileage (even the best maintained high mileage vehicles are going to have little quirks to them) and that the price is right. But if it's in good shape, a 200k Tacoma should give you at least another 100k. More if you put the time and effort into keeping her running.

A quick search via Kelly blue book; a 2000 4x4 Tacoma V6 with 190,000 miles in good condition is worth $5300 through a private party sale. So my gut reaction is definitely a no. Keep in mind that mods rarely add any value, in fact most of the time they take away from it especially in high mileage vehicles.

If you really like it and want it though, it's technically worth whatever someone is willing to pay. I'd try and talk the seller down to KBB value or closer, or move on to a different truck. I found my 04 in March with 24,500 miles on it for $17k, but I looked for a long time.

Do you have a link or pics of this truck? Would help to determine whether or not it's a good deal or not, hard to say otherwise

Like any other vehicle purchase go check it out !!

Make sure every thing works .

Makes a Big difference where you live .

If you see winter chemicals the frame has been repaired or will need to be.

You don`t mention drive train ??

    190,000 timing belt??

    I paid around $8,000 for my 2000 3.4 5 speed with 120,000 a few years ago.

Seems way overpriced for a 2wd truck that's that old. Even for a tacoma. Chances are, that truck has seen more than 190k too, if you factor in the big ass tires. Not many get the odo/speedo recalibrated after putting big tires on.

Seems to have a drop bracket lift, I would not go for it.

Over priced for a pre-runner with high mileage. Pass

Pay to test drive?? Serious? Is that normal in other states?

The ONLY way to buy a vehicle like that is one that you personally know the owner and their documented service history, or personally know the mechanic who has serviced it for the last x years, or you are a mechanic with skills/tools/space to fix it when it breaks.

Photos of vehicles that old are almost always more flattering than the vehicle actually is as well.

Pay to drive? Yeah right. Keep looking. In the bay area there's tons of nice 1st gens that have less miles for the same price. You're in a great market for a Tacoma. Be patient and you'll find the right one.

Yeah I would definitely pass on that one. It's priced too high especially for a 2wd, and I find it hard to trust a truck that's been lifted that high with that many miles and no description in the ad about details of said lift. Just too many "what if's", there are plenty of other first gens out there...definitely keep looking

Also pay to test drive? I wouldn't even want to deal with the kind of person that would put that in an ad.

yeah I should've been more specific in my last post, I can understand under certain conditions why someone would put that in their ad. But in an ad like this one that has practically no description of the truck, only 2 exterior photos and pertaining to a 2wd lifted truck with 200k miles...to ask for money for a test drive is ridiculous. If it were a collector's car, or even a really clean first gen Tacoma with a detailed description, history and multiple photos, I wouldn't question it.

I got my 2000 Tacoma 2.7 4x4 Manual almost 2 years ago with 180,000 (just over 190,000 now) on it for $6,200. I've put about $2,500 into it since then, but it was maintenance like tires, shocks/struts, fuel pump, window rust, muffler, cat converter (California...), O2 sensor, rack and pinion and its pressure hose, sway bar links/bushings and plunger in starter. All these things but the tires were the original parts as well. I knew it needed some work but it's been great! It now may need a new carrier bearing or u-joint(s) now...

All in all, I wouldn't pay that much for a 2wd
