My truck should have fallen apart already according to some people on here. 05 with the manual and I've only had minor issues that I caused. I'm sure it will be fine.

It's not like Toyota has fixed much from 2005 to 2015

Agree to a point. My dad bought a SB 1500 Chevy 4x4 in '85 which I later assumed as my ride. Not a bad truck but not the best either as this one had a 305ci motor (doggish & poor mpg). Would've been much better with the 3-fiddy under the hood. ;)

OP, are you in the market for a new truck or are you just curious about the "First model year = bugs" trend?

I think Toyota has learned a lot of lessons with previous model problems. I would buy the 2016.

I'd take one right out of the oven too (if it was closer to what I want), but aren't we getting a little ahead of ourselves? I mean it's not like anyone is going to see one of these in the flesh for another 8 or 9 months. They're still building the '15s and the factories won't be changing over until summer.

I will be in the market for a new truck when my lease is up on my current daily driver which, if my math is correct will put me in the window during the last 3rd of the 2016 sales year.

I'm afraid I might not be able to wait long enough for it to show up.

I have the 15 and have only 3 (very minor) complaints after about 8K miles.
    1. The mileage could be 1 or 2 mpg better
    2. I tapped into the wiring and moved the USB interface to my IPOD into the glove box.
    3. I added LED lighting under the hood so that I could see the dipstick tube better when checking the oil.

The mileage and power on the 2016s new engine is probably going to be better but not by an incredible amount. The interior is nicer but I never knew that I was supposed to be all that unhappy with what I have now. I kind of like my HVAC controls on the stupidly simple side especially when it's cold out. The touchscreen and blue tooth interface work pretty darn well for me now and it looks like that system hasn't changed much.

The wireless charging pad is a nice idea, but I have that on my nightstand now and although it works great on a cell phone without a case, once you put a case on your phone it becomes pretty "fussy".

I don't own a GoPro but it's probably included on the 2016 based on some cross licensing deal that probably gets GoPro another 100K+ units sold each year.

Now that the 2016 has been introduced the dealers have to contend with both other truck brands as well as the "I'll just wait for the 2016 model" mentality. Certainly it will be more difficult for the dealers to get full price on the 2015s that they have.

    1. wireless charging is awesome unless your an apple fan
    2. those wireless chargers with only 1-2 coils are super finicky on placement, if you get a 3 coil charger you have less issues.

hopefully the qi charger is a 3 coil one.

    3. people need to look at the mount as opening up different possibilities, maybe others will make mounts that attached to this standard mount.

radar detectors, dash cams, small gps, etc. and not just a go pro.

That multi-use mount idea is brilliant. Why limit to merely GoPro?

I haven't read every thread on here but no one is talking about how Toyota finally leveled the bed all the way around. No more needing to worry about the gap at the tailgate and cab ends of the bed when you put a cap or cover on the bed. That's a nice improvement in my book! I hated how my cover was such a pain to try and seal at either end of the bed.

There are always some sort of issues in a new model ...usually small...but enough that I personally would rather not take the chance of buying the first year.

An old friend of mine bought an 05 in the first year.... or should I say, first few months they came out. His truck - the paint pitted badly at the front of the bed (near cab) at the rocker panels. This was an early issue in the 2nd gens. Toyota painted his bed to compensate for the damages.

They've since added that black plastic piece on the edge and bottom of the bed in that spot and I think there's some protective film too.

Only issue I have with mine is the navi freaks out sometimes and resets. Happened twice sofar, usually after an update. Need to adjust the navigation voice volume whenever that happens.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy my truck again. Test drive one or several and use the info on this site to make sure the fluids are full and zerks greased before signing anything. There's no guarantee that any model, whether new or old, won't have issues. But with new, at least you have warranty! These are the nicest tacos produced yet.

How do you propose to get that accomplished? Stand there in the service bay and watch?

Tell the sales guy you want it all checked before you sign anything with proof on paper or yes, stand outside the service bay and watch. I do that sometimes just out of boredom as I hate sitting for a long time.
