Also, since we're on the welding subject. Just found out I have access to one thru a friend, sounds like a low power one but a welder nonetheless... Let the fab work begin:welder::sawzall:

The welder Ant has is really nice. Im not sure which model it is but it lays beads beautifully.

Also to your lift install offer I asked a few people to help... Ant is the closest to me and he said he would be willing to help me when I am ready and his schedule lines up... Maybe if you ask him you can come down and he can sit back and just point to what needs to be done on eveyones truck and drink the beer we bring lol

Coils are already put together. I had a second set of coils from a VA member who gave them away after he totaled his truck in Moab... But I have to wait til @HomerTaco can get me the LCA bolts. Hes busy with work after his vacation... Im not in a huge rush to install it... Itll happen when it happens.

That's more the person doing the welding than the machine...

@Tatts521 Hobart, Miller, and Lincoln are the big 3. You're going to be welding 3/16 and 1/4 plate, so buy at least a 180 if you go mig. Even better if you can go with a 220v welder.

Flat welding is simple and you can just as easily learn to stick (arc) weld and mig weld. Any time gravity is involved is going to be harder to do especially just starting out because no matter which welding process you use, the slag pool wants to fall to the ground.

On a mig welder, your hand stays in place and a motor pushes the rod for you. On a stick machine, you move the rod with your hands. Stick is a simpler machine mechanically, while mig is more convenient.

My uncle (hey now I sound like Hunter) spent 40 years as a millwright using a stick welder. 7018 lays some beautiful beads that don't require much cleanup.

Check with your local community college. They probably have a welding class, and you'll probably start out with using a stick welder.
