    Hey guys,

My mechanic said that I need to replace my timining chaing on my truck. How would I be able to tell if it really needs to be changed? I am right at 300,000 miles on my truck and I haven't changed it since I have owned it, I bought it in 1997.

I have read several places where they say the timing chain can last the life of the vehicle but if it does break it can cause major damage.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Don

You should hear a loud "Tapping" at the front of the motor

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Pull the valve cover and inspect the chain sprockets. If they are wore, then I would suggest changing it.
