Just saw this competitive video. Pretty interesting results...

How would they hold up with bedliner??

Now I'm truly wondering how the composite bed in our Tacomas hold up.

If you're reading this Toyota make a video for us, please.

River rocks is way different than bricks. Bricks have ridged edges... :rimshot:

The edges on the bricks is the reason that the Ford truck bed was torn up. Almost any truck can pass the River Rock test. All the edges are smooth. All the bed has to do is hold up to the impact of the drop.

Its a Tacoma guys. If you are serious about hauling, etc. you would be in a fullsize as gas mileage is comparable with the big 3 to the 3rd gen. For day to day average joe stuff the composite bed is fine, its scratches and scuffs, but dosent rust, its a truck. I will say a bed mat helps a lot.

I agree. But it would be interesting how much it can hold up when you do drop some bricks and tiles.

This is how I loaded my truck with gravel base for a new patio, not one issue. Biggest scratch I have is from a shovel while taking it out. It may not have been pavestones...but it was gravel (this pic was from loading the leveling sand, but it was done the same way).

I'd bet our trucks are pretty much in between...but this video shows a big flaw in the aluminum crap. I always liked the Chevy more anyway

Watch these things with a grain of salt. I came across a Chevy demo and they had the Colorado tailgate vs the Tacoma tailgate. Obviously, I am familiar with our tailgates... they added weight to it to make it twice as heavy as it normally is so the Colorado tailgate would appear to be much lighter

No. Ford sucks and Chevy proved it. Their tailgate is lighter than ours too, the Colorado kicks the Tacoma's ass...accept it.

The only way they would cheat this test would be if the bricks were heavier...
But that tool box test was done with the same box. But only knows what shenanigans they pulled off.

I bet with professionally applied Line-X, the Ford bed would be just fine. Line-X is no joke.

Very true, but the point is an "off the lot" comparison. How do the trucks stack up stock vs. stock, without aftermarket parts to add durability? That's the point here. Anything aftermarket is extra cost. Personally, anything costing 40k+ shouldn't need me to throw $300 more at it to stand up to a 15 pound tool box.

I believe that the colorado also assists the tailgate upwards. As does the Tundra. The Tacoma only assists when the tailgate is dropping.

    I completely agree.

However, let's say in a hypothetical situation I'm looking to buy a full sized. The Ford is what I'm leaning towards due to other superior reasons, but I know the bed is weak. I personally would have no problem shelling out another $600 to turn that weakness into a strength.

Im looking at a fullsize as well and want a tundra but the gas mileage has me leaning to ford.
