I live in Littleton but work in Wheat Ridge. My old lady works in Parker a little closer to you.

    Well... now I'm curious.
I am using the relentless fab hood mount with the 4' firestick as I stated above. With that set up though, there isn't room between the hood and the antenna to make the connection. I either need a different mount or a different cable with either a coax with shorter fitting on the bottom or a 90 degree angle leaving the antenna.

I trimmed the plastic beneath the mount and ran the wire under the plastic cover

I was planning on trimming the insulation where it is so fat. Does a firering have a 90? I'm not sure if I know exactly what one is.

The '16s have a small fuse panel just behind the hood latch on the driver's side. You have to get down in the floor and look back up behind the knee panel to see it. It has two rows of about 15 fuses each in it and it has a cover on it that tells you what all the fuses power.

Did you run your power wire to the battery or do an add-a-circuit to the fuse panel right behind it?

I'm still trying to figure out what this fire ring is but I guess I'm going to have to. I trimmed the insulation as far as I could and it still won't fit.

Ah. Now I see said the blind man.

Will I have to get a different stud mount to mate with it?

Are you using a coax cable with the Fire Ring end on it or trying to use a NGP connector? It's a little tight, and you need to either ground the bracket or have a ring terminal under the ring, then insulate the bolt to the antenna coupler to prevent a short, but you shouldn't need to punch through the cowl to mount there. I'm using the relentless bracket as well, but had someone at Moab last week recommend moving my mount back to the rear corner for better performance (I think my issues have mostly been with my voice not cutting well enough and maybe needing an amplified mic, though).

Well my issue with moving it to the rear is I intend to have a camper shell relatively soon and that would eliminate the ability to have it mounted in the bed as well as cut into the height of the antenna above the shell. As it is now with the 4' stick I have a good 2.5-3' above the truck and away from the windshield. I had originally and ignorantly bought the NGP (I think) connector. I a, going to order the fire ring but it won't be here until Monday :annoyed:. I did ground down the inside portion bracket to ground it. I plan on taking it to a real shop for fine tuning after I get it all installed. I get all kinds of backwards confused when it comes to the electrical conversation of transmitting signal.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
I went with a Midland 1001LWX and put it in the little space under the A/C controls on the 2nd gen. FireRing cable, @Shmellmopwho bed side mount, Firestik quick disconnect, and heavy duty spring, on a 5' Firestik antenna.

If I did it again I would go with something like a Cobra C75WXST for cleanliness.

I've got a similar issue since I've got a soft-topper, but plenty of fab shops make a mount bracket to put the antenna on just above the tail-light at the edge of the tailgate. Lots of the guys at Rock Therapy had these kinds of mounts.

here's the link to BAMF's version, which is just the first one I found on google (not reccomending for or against it in particular, they've got a great rep but I've never used any of their stuff personally):
    http://www.bayareametalfab.com/2nd-Gen-CB-Mount_p_16.html

One other trick I did on my install was to wire a good sized capacitor (220 microFarad, I think) between the power/ground wires into the radio (past the switch I have which shuts off the radio power altogether so that it can't get accidentally turned on when my antenna isn't on the mount). It's intended to clean up the power into the radio to reduce interference from other stuff on the truck - I'm not sure if it really helps, but it doesn't hurt anything.

@Shmellmopwho makes one that's quite nice.
