Fellow Taco brothers (and any sisters),

I'm gonna get some 285's put on my '16 really soon. Which tires do you guys think are better (taking into account longevity, weight, MPG, etc)? Will do minimal off-roading.

General Grabbers AT2 OR BFGoodrich KO2???

Thanks for any and all info!

grabbers look super badass, at least to me. KO's are so...standard. Then again I don't wheel, so I can't attest to offroad performance.

I run the Toyo Open Country AT2 myself. I live on the West Coast and we get a fair amount of rain in the winter so my first priority was a tire for those conditions.

I was leaning that way. Would you mind elaborating why you think so?

How did they compare price-wise, performance, weight, MPG, etc?

The General Grabber AT2 is a ripoff of the BFG KO1. The KO2 is a newer tire and an updated version of KO1.

No worries. I'm not sure if you used the search feature on the forum or if you used Google, but the search feature on this forum isn't very good. I always use google to search for anything.

    I googled this.

Quiet on road, good off road. Used in dry, rain, snow and ice without one issue, no slipping, sliding, anything. Looks good too.

    Loud as hell URD exhaust!
Also consider the Hankook Dynapro ATM, its a very solid all season tire.

Recently had the general grabber at2 installed. So far they have been great. No road noise from driving on the highways and handle great. Only took them on a few dirt roads and traction was really good. Haven't notice a real drop in my mpg. Plus at the price they might be a good alternative to the bfg's if you don't do a lot of serious off roading.

I'll be buying myself a set of new tires here before winter. I was looking between the Ko2 and Toyo AT2. From all the research I've done, Off-road use, On-road use, wet, dry, snow, mud, sand, Longevity. The Toyo AT2's were the clear winner for me and I think they look better. But good luck with whichever one you choose.

The AT2's were a better tire than the original KO's. They are much cheaper which is what makes the KO2's over priced, you don't get enough for the money when many others offer the same of better performance. General's have a great warranty, are much cheaper and before were as strong sidewall wise as the 3ply bfg's (they used 2 ply 1500 denier nylon where bfg's used 3ply 1000).

Yes the center tread is similar in style to the KO's but their more open center section makes them less prone to the KO's in terms of hydroplanning which I do not see much improvement via the shape of the KO2's in that aspect. A "C" shape is going to hold water and make it more difficult to evacuate at highway speeds, a common complaint of those tires.

Personally the KO2's are just the new cool tire to have because of the sidewall design. It seems about 80% of the got new tires threads are the KO2's (it isn't because they horribly out perform the competitors like the Toyos, Hankooks or others). Honestly the Copper AT3 are probably the best performing AT tire out there and have been tested as such, and they are much cheaper than the KO's which you pay for the name really. People want to look cool and they will pay for that, look at all the MT tires guys put on their trucks that never leave the pavement.

Between those two I would go AT2 and save a few hundred bucks for an almost exact same level of performance (they are too close to tell the difference). Plus with the AT2's with most sizes (even in P rated) you get 16/32's of tread depth when most only give 13/32's which is very good. Otherwise if you can deal with a slightly less cool looking AT the Coppers would be my number 1 choice.

    Good luck.

    Tyler

On my second set of Toyo AT2 and would not look back. I live back in forth from Flagstaff to Socal and run my rig through sand, heavy mud, rain, ice and snow. The biggest difference I noticed from my roommate running the Ko2's, is that we both put high, highway mileage on them and the tread wear has been significantly slower on the Toyo's. They are an extremely quiet tire(running 33's myself). They exit mud/snow from the tread very well for not being an MT as well.
