Depending on the size of dog is how you pick the size of the kong. I personally take a few kongs and mix her kibble with wet food, fill the kong and freeze them. It takes her longer to get it out. You have to start with it being easy so I just put the kibble in the kong at first. She learned how to chew on the kong and roll it to get the food out. Over time I made it more difficult. Kong also makes cookies that fit in their kongs and peanut butter spread etc that would be a treat not a meal replacement.

interesting... I do the freezing peanut butter in the kong thing, but ive never thought of feeding in it. shes a slow eater though so im not sure she'd have enough drive to work for the food she already isn't all that interested in.

thanks for your .02 cents, its very helpful. i mispoke, the 1500 mg is the combo glucosamine chondroitin and MSM. the vet i saw said she is a good weight for her size, she is not a huge dog. she weighs in about 75 lbs and you can see her first rib or 2 for sure. i'm also glad to hear from someone that has good things to say about Rimadyl. i think i'll look into the chiropratic, continue the 1500 mg supplement i've been giving her, and from something else i've read i think i'll add fish oil supplement to the mix too. see how that works, if its still not helping, i'll go get the Rimadyl from the vet and see how that goes.

+1 on Adiquan; Used it on a German Shorthair a few years ago. Vet gave it to me, so I assume its prescription.

This is my dog paisley. We have been struggling with her for about 6 mo this with behavior issues. She is extremely over stimulated. When waking on a leash she wants to kill any dog that's in sight. She also is very aggressive with people. She usually does circles around me and doesn't let anything get near me. Been working really hard with her and seeing some approve meant. She's the sweetest dog ever. I've taken her to the dog park lately and she is doing better. She is really bad on the leash walking from the car to the park. Very aggressive toward other dogs. Then she's totally fine in the park with 100s of dogs. She does snare her lips a little though. Then leaving the park on a leash she is completely fine and wake right past dogs with zero reaction. Sorry for the paragraph lol

My dad's red heeler is identical to that description you just gave of yours. He like 5 people and thats it. He likes my 2 dogs and thats it. Any body else, old or young, he nips at and some he full fledged lunges at. He will jump at any other dog also. Mom saw him chasing a coyote through the side yard a few months back. He's kinda psychotic. If it's just his people and my dogs, he's an angel and super loving. Huge behavioral issues. I've offered to take him in for a while and try to work with him. We had him for a week and he didn't show any of that with us. I think it's my dad fault as his temperament is at peak level with him.

Anyway, good luck with the training and keep it up.

Happy to have found this thread here! Love all the dogs!!

I like dogs more than most people. Loyal and loving.

Here is Neko, a shiba inu. He is 2 years old and he is a handful!! Had him since he was a new pup and he was/is the hardest dog i have ever had to train. Smart as could be, if i have a treat he will do whatever i want, put the treats away and he will stare at you like you are insane.

If you watch the Shiba Inu dogs101 youtube video it starts like this... "Looking for a dog thats easy to train? Well... Keep looking" They got that spot on LOL But he is very loving to people, and is starting to come around with other animals too. Training never stops with this one though.

And my newest pup, only had him a couple weeks. Name is Leo, short for Leonidas. English Mastiff and Labrador mixed. Slap full of energy and always looking for something new to chew on!!

    Now a little suggestion....

I have read through quite a few of the post in this thread and im sorry to read about people having health issues with their pups, its sad and i wish them the best!!

I would like to suggest that everyone looks into pet insurance. I have had Healthy Paws for a couple years now and it has saved me a few times. Im a disabled vet living on a disability check and cant afford huge vet bills, but i have had to have a dog put down once before because i couldnt afford the medical bills and i vowed id never be in that situation again... So before i got Neko i looked into pet insurance and have had it ever since.

I paid 34 bucks a month for just Neko, now with both dogs it is 69 a month. It sucks having that monthly bill but its much better than thousands i couldnt afford when something comes up. They pay 90% and my deductible is only 100 bucks. They cover EVERYTHING that is not a pre-existing condition. Since i started my pups on it young, they have NO pre-existing conditions.

Im in no way affiliated with any of them, you can go with Healthy Paws, Trupanion, or any others you can find that covers all accidents, injuries, and illnesses but look close at the fine print and make sure you understand what is covered and what is not, and if there is a yearly or lifetime benefit amount to make sure you wont be in a bind when the time comes.

Just a suggestion to help keep our furry friends at their best!! Nothing worse than looking into their eyes knowing you cant afford to help them. You never know when that snake will bite them, they'll get hit by a car, or develop a tumor.

That officer handled it very well. They also didn't look too vicious to me. They were just barking to let their owner know they had something. My boxer does the same thing at our house. He barks to alert us.

picked up a little 1980s briggs and straton powered lawn tractor over the weekend to do the lawn with, and move trailers/material around with. to my surprise, the more timid of our two dogs (when it comes to loud things) just kept following me around the yard no matter what path or speed I drove, he kept about 10 feet behind me (mower blades off of course). and then whenever I stopped he'd jump up into my lap. can't say I've seen a dog do that before. cracked me up.
