Get the v8, and you should be fine, they tend to last longer, and the v6 and all the ecocraps give the same mpg "17" so no matter what engone you get it costs the same on fuel, so i would get the more reliable engine, and at least if you have the v8 the truck will sound and get up and go a lot better.

I know, my dad has the 2015 tundra 5.7 trd offroad 4x4 and that thing sounds really nice and it takes off, which the tacoma lacks.

This. I'm a huge Honda car fan but everyone I know (2 people) that 'had' redgline's had loads of issues and ended up ditching them before 100k.

the mpg on the 2014 5.0 f150 reg cab 4x4 was the same on the hwy as my 2009 reg cab tacoma! both had 3 inch lifts. 32s on taco, 33s on ford.. taco wheeled way better of course, but the ford was better for everything else. the 5.0 sounds great and can cause extra fuel to be used for enjoyment purposes!

My dads truck was fast when he had stock tires when he leveled it and put 33s on changed it alittle not a lot. When my truck was stock with the 29s or 30s it came with it was really quick and fast and when I put the 3in lift and 33s on it really slowed it down

Just to put things into perspective, the F-series sales numbers for a month alone are close to 2/3rds of all of Honda's sales numbers across all models per month in the U.S. so when it comes to problems, they will be more prevalent in the F150 as it is one model with high production numbers.

Honda reliability is not usually questioned but I can speak from experience and this goes for Toyota as well. The quality of both companies has gone down hill. Can this be due to U.S. production? I think yes. Both my Japanese built Highlander and FJ were much more solid than my Canton, Ohio built '08 Accord and my Baja, Mexico Tacoma.

I think the quality slippage has more to due with cars/trucks becoming more technologically advanced and the pressure from shareholders to increase sales and not so much the made in america vs japan theory.

I will add to that and say not just more advanced but parts are being made cheaper to keep costs down and the american auto work force is not spectacular either. The japanese built '09 Highlander and '07 FJ that I have(had)are and were head and shoulders quality wise compared to the recent american made cars and trucks I have owned.

    Calling bullshit.

US workers can build cars just as well, if not better in some cases then their Japanese counterparts.

This man nailed it 150% ,I work in the auto sector I see it first hand.
Also Toyota Motor Co and Honda Motor Co both have said the quality of there North American models far surpasses that of the Japanese build units.

As an update to this the 3rd gen taco is looking way more appealing right now. Ridgeline has some really cool features.. I drove it and it was a fricken dream but the dealers in southern california are absolutely the dumbest sunsabeeches that have ever walked the earth at any point in history... ever. twice over. First of all none of them knew anything about the truck i.e. features and about 10 minutes in I realized that I really shouldn't be explaining the product to the sales people that had gathered around to watch their own corporate videos on my cell phone that I was explaining the features they didn't know the truck had like the in-bed audio system etc. Insane right? It gets better. They have decided that although this truck was pulled from the market in 2014 and holds the distinct title of worst selling truck in the U.S. in the past 10 years, THEY ARE GOING TO HOLD FULL RETAIL OR MARK UP EVERY ONE THEY GET. This is a pitiful joke in my eyes because they are trying to break back into a market that historically they have failed in. The truck looks way better, drives amazing, feels like an F150 size wise with the added width etc and has great features but there is no factory rebates/incentives and every single dealer I have talked to has said MSRP is rock bottom for these trucks and I just can't do it. Like most in the US I think of Hondas and Toyotas as commodity cars not premium items and will never ever ever buy one for full price or I will feel like I'm being ripped off. (OR MORE! Some idiot dealers are asking $5-$10 over sticker)

So anyway.. I'm still in the market and the redesigned tacoma (and tundras) grow more and more appealing every time I look at the longo toyota inventory knowing I can call their internet guys and they will do $100 over invoice hassle free all day every day on any truck on their lot. Honda clearly is either making another mistake or they just don't know how to sell in this segment. I have yet to see one on the road.

Who cares that you want a Ridgeline and for whatever reason?

Buy it. It's a really cute car. My wife says she likes it... a bit.
