Today I spoke with a dealer in Colorado and inquired about a manual transmission Tacoma. He told me that the ratio of automatic to manual is 35 to 1. He also told me that manual transmission Tacomas are made in Japan and that they have a Japanese VIN number to show that. I am guessing this guy is full of crap.

I'll buy the 35 to 1 bit. After waiting so long and listening to my mostly straight forward salesman tell me about the process they went through to get mine.

I'll buy 35 to 1 as well, ended up snagging someone's special order that they decided they didn't want, otherwise it would have been a 3 month wait (per multiple dealers). Did have to fly to SLC to buy it, but that's what cheap Frontier tickets are for :D

if you want something made in japan, either get :

    4Runner
    Land Cruiser
Rav4 (japan version, there is a Canada version that is imported to the USA)

and most of the Lexus vehicles.

The manual Transmissions might be built in Japan. But the Tacoma is assembled in North America.

I'm also getting this from the dealer I'm working with. Always had a manual truck and I don't see that changing so I'll just have to wait.

I've had a 3rd gen conspiracy theory for quite some time that akio decided to stick it to lazy Americans and their autos by underfilling fluid and giving them other issues. He then decides to have the manuals built in Japan as the most holy Toyota truck ever conceived.

Lol now if only lazy ass Americans would stop driving automatics with the excuse "wahhh I dont want to sit in traffic with a stick" when really they just suck at driving stick. Then no one would have transmission fluid issues.

35 to 1 is the ratio of salesman who are completely full of crap to the one who actually has a clue about what they sell.

The reference is to Toyota and models still made in Japan. Of course there are other manufacturers that still build cars in Japan.
