I'm by no means an expert, but I think it's just the pads floating/moving/shifting a little. It seems to occur as the pads wear some. I understand it's normal. I added a second set of those spring clip things (sorry don't know what they are called) and that didn't fix it. There's a thread out there on the subject. That extra spring/clip seems to solve it for some, but not others. Some have solved by lubing the pins too.

    Found it:

I used the aluminum ani-seize on the pins and the back and sides of the pads that directly contact the rotor. Installed the new springs as well and no more click. sometimes the springs just don't release the pad all of the way back to the caliper piston, away from the rotor, and they shift when the tire rotation direction changes. harmless really, but a little annoying if you care about it.

I assumed it was the rotors shifting, so I guess I was close... still bothers me though... any noise, rattle, anything... I always have to find it and silence it. I'm a little ocd

    if anyone's interested: brake click

I've read mixed reviews about that. I read that the front diff and ADD are near the battery and the transmission is behind the engine block. So the t-case may be hanging out but I'll find out this weekend.
