There's an angle grinder featured prominently in the picture... Soon enough:

Just my opinion, but some people shouldn't touch a welder.

As for myself, I realize I shouldn't have access to an angle grinder w/ cutoffs. :luvya:

Seems a little strange that this is the only area on the entire frame that has any rot. I checked the rest with the hammer test.

I'm pretty sure its the same on Tacomas, its that spot the gets the crud first. Right at that hanger. But your right to be a little concerned. What spots are lurking that you can't see?

Don't you fucking dare chop off half of the entire frame and start from scratch.

Yeah, same area on the 4Runners too. I just can't figure out why it's only on the passenger side. Drivers side is completely fine.

I won't be touching the frame with an angler grinder or welder except for replating and properly welding the rotted section. I promise. :poking:

Looks unsafe. The whole vehicle does. Needs a roll cage and and 500 hp turbo motor.

They live on Mark's rig now, so at least they'll get some real use.

Sooo I have a quandary... the original bed has a 'one touch' tailgate. The '80 bed I brought back from Colorado Springs is designed for the tailgates with dual latches. I drove 7 hours the other day to pick up a tailgate with the dual latches. However it's from a '75, but I was hoping it would fit. It doesn't. It's about 1.5" too narrow.

So what would you guys suggest? I don't want to paint unless I have the tailgate ready too. The original bed has moderate rust that will take quite some time to repair, while the '80 bed is ~95% rust-free. Should I keep and repair the original bed? Use the '80 bed and keep looking for a tailgate? Or try to modify the '80 bed to accept the one-touch tailgate?

My suggestion, leave it alone and focus on the Tacoma. Cause I wanna see it drive before I die.
