Pro comp 3" lift?

Does anyone have any information pertaining to the Pro comp lifts? Or is it more or less a lost cause. I'm currently looking at this (See below), eventually I will do a rear leaf pack and a new UCA down the road. Just wondering if this would suffice for now while still being able to off-road a little. My On-road / Off-road ratio is like 75% on and 25% off currently.

Yeah no need to buy Pro Chump. As Scott said above talk to Marie at Headstrong Off Road

 

The specific feedback about that lift is that the springs are about the highest spring rate available for our trucks - 720lb/in IIRC. And "more is not better" here. You need the "right" spring rate not the "heaviest" spring rate.

By contrast, OME 886 springs are 660 lb/in IIRC and 885 springs are 585 lb/in

One guy installed them on a regular cab and jounced down the road unmercifully until he installed an ARB bumper with a winch, that finally made it manageable.

For about the same money you can buy some eibach springs and bistein 5100 shocks from toytec

 

I put a ProComp 3" on my FJ and HATED it. Springs are way way too stiff. I would suggest against it.

 

On the Head Strong Off Road page they sell the Bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks, you can also pair them with the rear shocks. My question is with the max 2.5" of lift the front can support, should the rear shocks be the standard length ones or the extended?

 

Depends what rear lift you go with. If you do lift the rear more than an inch than I would look into some kind extended shock to go with it. Best way is to measure the rear to see exactly what size shock you need.

 

I personally had the Pro Comp lift you linked for 50,000 miles. Skip that lift. It was really stiff (which isn't a bad thing if you only drive on pavement) and after 50,000 miles, the rear shocks seals were blown, rear bushings were gone, front coils were extremely rusty and the finish was chipping off. I barely went off road with it and it was done. I replaced the lift with ICONs all around. Much better.

 

I am thinking about the Procomp 3" lift. Won't be off-roading much. I need to get in and out of hunting lease. Nearly got stuck a few times just need a tire with more aggressive tread and a LITTLE larger. I googled Icon and there must be 10 kits for Tacoma. Which one did you get?

 

I didn't do much off-roading either and the Procomp Lift was toast, that's why I wouldn't recommend it.

TYVM! I am still hunting around. I wanted 18" wheels, but getting so hard to find nice wheels smaller than 20". I am thinking about the following look. Just need to get through dirt / mud without getting stuck.

 

All the nice wheels are 17" and below.

 

I have not found any wheels in 17 that I like. Reading offset info and what I can install is making the brain cells wake up!
Did you upgrade your upper control arms? I keep reading if go over 2.5" you should install better upper control arms?

 

I did not initially upgrade my UCA's. I went for 50,000 miles with stock UCA's and an acceptable alignment. I ended up going extended travel and installing new UCA's. I recommend getting them for sure, even if you're below 2" of lift.

 

I had the listed lift on my truck for about 70k+ miles. While it was a stiff ride, it did last. I had some light surface rust on the shock bodys, but they still worked fine. I now have a full OME lift and the truck definitely has a softer more enjoyable ride.

 

Had the 3" ProComp installed. Could not pass up price and timeframe to get it done. So far all seems great. The ride is just a little stiffer. I do feel like I have a little "wandering" (not sure how to describe) going down the highway. The tires and wheels were way more than I had planned for - OUCH! But so far liking how it looks. Heading to check the feeders this week and see how it does in the sand.

 

You need more caster. What does your alignment sheet ssy? Which upper arms are installed on the truck?

 

Not sure on alignment , but taking it back it for upper control arms and alignment - I am going with a Ranch Hand Brush Guard. 4 Wheel parts is going to install the arms for free (I paid for the arms) and re-align with brush guard installed. The sales guy told me if I was not happy they would refund / upgrade me to something else if necessary. So far so good, they are doing what they can to make it 100%. Hope don't sound like whiney ass like it so far just noticed a little "wander". They did suggest control arm in beginning and I just wanted it done ASAP so I could use the truck. I requested arms after reading I will get better alignment - don't want to burn up these expensive tires.

You can get the Pro comp with the pro runner struts and shocks which are equivalent to the billies, i have that setup on my truck.

 

2012 Taco. Purchased those exact springs with new mounts from Amazon. Received them yesterday. In addition, I bought 5100's all around and Pro Comp 1' AAL from 4wheel parts. The Spring kit came with a diff drop and sway bar extension kit. Will be installing everything at work today!! Hope little or no rake after install. Uses: No extreme Off-roading, mainly trails, light uneven bumpy terrain and mudding. Had to replace the previous owners lift which were 2' spacers up front and two different blocks in back?? (2 per leaf)... had blown bags.. Rear shocks were stock with 4' worth of blocks. Big time rake. At every speed bump my shock would over extend and slam back down...toast. In the future if this lift is successful and I keep it ill be shooting for UCA. Shall post here once installed and taken on a test drive.
