TRD OFF Road or TRD Sport (Gas Mileage)

I'm picking up a 2010 Tacoma in a few days but I'm torn between a OFF ROAD vs. Sport.

I'll be driving over 100 miles a day and i'll be taking the Taco off road to local So.Cal trails about once a month.

My question is, how much of a difference is there in gas mileage between a 4x2 Taco Off Road vs. a 4x2 Taco Sport? I know it says 17/21 as listed MPG stats, but i was wondering off road tires affected mpg figures.

 

I think your going to want to care more about the two then the gas difference!! Theres many cosmetic differences to that you will definetaly want to look into.

 

any regrets going sport than off road?

 

not really because the rugged trails are a very crappy offraod tires IMO they are better suited for highway than anything

 

I don't think there will be much of a difference. I'm with WV FIREFIGHTER there are more important differences to consider when deciding between the two. From the cosmetic to more importantly whether you want the rear locker or not.

 

No I love my sport!! I dont do any heavy off-roading so im good to go. Even the sport models do good in some heavy off-roading from what I have heard. But definetaly look into the cosmetic differences!! Trust me!! There are many off-road owners that spend more money afterwards getting sports parts!!!! Like the hood scoop, color matched rear bumper and front grill, color matched side mirrors, color matched door handles. Just look into it before you finally decide.

If you're going to commute 100 miles with the Coma, I would get a Sport 2WD. The Sport rides like a car, but the OR rides more stiff. I have the OR, but no regrets. If you like non-functional stuff like a hood scoop, then get the Sport. If you like color matched everything, then get the Sport.

IMO, I'd rather have the OR. I got stuck in a mud pit last night and finally used the locker. If I had a Sport, then I would have called AAA for a tow truck. You can get a Sport and buy a locker later.

If Toyota had the option to mix and match accessories w/o a huge fee, then I would have got an Off-Road with color matched grille and bumper. The hood scoop is retarded.

 

Since your car is more of a daily driver than weekend warrior, then I would focus on gas mileage. The Prerunner Sport will be better for this cause its 2wd and the tires. If you need to, you can switch over to passenger tires which will be better for mileage since they will most likely be lighter. For now, the stock tires will get you by for taking milder trails.
