Costilla to Cimarron is about 75 miles. Pretty sure she did that in 4x4 and the rest of the miles in 4x2. Also, she has a 4 banger. I can believe it.

Obviously I was not in 4WD while on the highway, only on that muddy trek through the Valle Vidal. Truck is stock except for cosmetic stuff - mud flaps, tint and a Leer 100 XR. Yes, it is a 4 banger. Yes, I got 27 mpg. Considering my 2011 never did better than 21 mpg I'm pleased as punch.

Like I said did you do all of that on only 14 gallons of gas. I suspect not.

The best i've gotten on a trip. Never below 23 mpg now. This is mostly hilly backroads driving with at least 7-8 stops. The 26.2 mpg was on highway going a slow 55-60 mph.

South OC, I hear what you're saying. LA is a whole another animal. Everyone is waiting for traffic to stop. So yes you're right in that sense. Because I live 1/4 mile from a toll road, and my work is 1/4 mile off the toll road exit, I reluctantly use it more than I should (cost more than gas).

'16 AC 4WD 6spd, 14.2mpg this round city driving (Currently have about 4k on the ODO). Pretty miserable IMO. I have to make a 500 mile round trip every 2 1/2 months, I average 22mpg on very flat, straight roads. I'm a pretty cautious driver as it is. I love the truck, but am getting worse mileage than I got with larger 285 tires on my '12 auto dblcab. At least she's pretty, right?

A lot of BS in this thread. People showing nothing but their snapshot of one good tank or not even a full tank and making grandiose claims. Fuelly tells all.

Do you accelerate hard in the city? I try not to do that and gets me better mpg. If I am not accelerating I do put it in the next gear up. Your hwy mpg is what I get and mine is a double cab it is still not too bad.

I almost bought that same truck for the mpg. As for the 4wd, if you go slow and put it in the right gear you can easily get above 18mpg(v6) on dirt roads so not suprised by the 27mpg or 381miles on 14gal. The lower rear end(3.9) on the manual 4cyl really helps out. You should see the numbers people get on the 4cyl fourm.

I hit 26.5 mpg last week when I drove from my late moms place in NV to where I live in N CA. I drove 70, 65 then 57 mph the last 35 miles on the 110 mile trip. Down to 25 mpg now after a trip to town and a camping trip where I drove some Forest Circus roads a little. Waiting to see where it sits when I fill up again. My friend with a 2011, same configuration except he has a shell and heavy front/rear bumpers, asked I check my average since I bought the truck, I'm curious too. No, I don't use Fuelly, can't find a app for my rotary dial phone for it.
    Duane

PS: Just added up my gas consumption, filled up with 196.15 gals, driven 4469 miles at last fill up. 22.78 mpg. Not much city driving except the first 1700 miles where I'd say I did 15% city driving.

    Mostly stuff I built.
My manual transmission truck is getting 19.5 mpg on my mixed driving back and forth to work. Out on the highway on a 900 mile trip to the coast I got 22.1 mpg running 70-75 mph. Both figures hand calculated.

I went 80mph for about 90 miles. Ended up a lil over 23mpg during that stretch. No wind. Only a slight uphill challenge on the freeway. Slowest during all that was 65mph. image.jpg

I'm not talking about a 3rd gen but I have to post this anyway just because I'm so shocked by it. Bought a 2003 Sequoia 4x4 Ltd a couple weeks ago. So far it's been mixed city/hwy but mostly hwy. About 200 miles. I'm at 21.1 mpg with that pig of a 4.7. I'm amazed. Better on fuel than my 2013 dclb was.
