my 1997 Tacoma 4X4 had the one click going on with the starter. I change out the contact and the plunger like other on this site as done. But will still not work. now no sound come from the starter at all. The battery is good, less than a year old. Anybody have any ideal what to do

Have you actually tested or had the battery tested? FYI you made two thread posts in this section.

A well known shop that specializes in rebuilding electrical motors/alternators, etc. would be a good bet.

Most of the ones around here will remove, repair, reinstall your unit for very little more than an OTC reman will cost you, and you still have to do the work.

You must have more of those shops down your way most in this area have closed as the owners retired .

Maybe all the Cigarette boats and Yachts keep them in business

Sadly have seen some (too much) of the same.

The ones that are good enough to win fleet service contracts are what I'm finding to be survivors. The guy I currently use does the school buses for the County. But police, sheriffs, ambulance, beer distributors, concrete trucks, ad nauseum ad infinitum all need service too.

I've lived in very small towns as well, and things like this can be a problem there. Refreshed my own alternators and starters in the past, but not ones with intergral voltage regulators. But I guess most of those have now moved to the ECU anyway...........

    Grounds can do this .

I wonder corroded connection on the solenoid wire.

You did remember to put it back on.

I know I forgot a time or more over the years

try shorting your solenoid. your starter has 2 connections. 1 coming directly from the battery, and the other that is a control switch. get any lead wire and touch the 2 contacts, this will manually start the starter assuming your ground is fine. if it works, youre good. if not, either it or your battery is bad. you can do the same method on other batteries to find the issue.

an awesome guy put this in my question thread. We have the same issue.
"its not the starter, its the starter solenoid. Ill venture to say your truck has quite a few miles on it. Anyway, the contact points are burnt and are not allowing current to pass. All you have to do is replace the contacts. I got mine on eBay for 10$. harder part is getting to the starter."
