Well so glad I found this forum. My hood is vibrating all over, checked and most of my adhesive globs are separated. 2500 miles, noticed the shaking early on, figured I would wait for the first service to get it checked out. Noticed today that there is a very small wrinkle developing in the hood!! Calling it in tomorrow. Will try to get some pics and follow up after talking to Toyota.

I finally took my truck to the dealership to get this issue resolved. It's a known issue and they are aware of it. The dealership already have approved work instructions on how to fix it. They let a body shop fix mine and everything is good now. No more vibration and it looks like factory stock. See attached photo. I was just left without my truck for a while.

I noticed my hood vibrating slightly when i was driving the truck home. I just thought the the high hawaiian winds and the sheer size of the hood was to blame. I've had mine for less the a week with 150 miles on it.. I read this post and went outside to check my truck... mine has this issue as well.. :frusty:

Mine looks like complete shit compared to the work they did for you. They put so much glue on there that they had to repaint the underside of the hood to cover it all up.

I feel terrible that you seem to have all the issues listed so far for the 2016.

I would be a watcher if you started a thread on how you/the dealership is fixing these issues.

    1. I've been to the dealership three times, each time they either "can't replicate" the issue or it is "normal" for the vehicle. I will probably wait for 15k mile service to get the hood fixed. Nervous about dealer taking it to a body shop and mucking up something else.

    2. I haven't noticed the clunk when rolling to a stop recently (hotter weather a factor??? perhaps). Speedo needle was ticking when driving up to the mountains the other day. Hadn't noticed it before that in a few weeks. I replaced the A/C filter and push the "outside air" button as often as I can remember to, in order to keep air dried out (super annoying you have to do this). Everything else applies to statement #1.

And yet you still have it. That amazes me. I think you really like it because it gives you a chance to bitch about it in every thread you can. I know you are going to say you cant afford to trade it in. Clint Eastwood would trade it or shoot it. Barney Fife would keep it.

Well it's like this little mexican guy told me once, when I asked him why he stayed with his wife who made him miserable: "Es cheaper to keep'er senor"

I'd be lying if I said I didn't get some entertainment factor out of the overly defensive reactions of blind brand loyalist fanboys.

Also maybe my honesty on the product will get the attention of potential buyers so that they can look at things more objectively and with a critical eye for details. Finally, a total shot in the dark, but maybe folks from Toyota are paying attention and will see some of the criticisms of this vehicle. No I will not go quietly into the dark and be complacent in my acceptance of poor functionality on an otherwise decent platform.

Well, I dropped mine off at the Dealer here in Hawaii (Servco Toyota Windward on Oahu) this morning for the hood vibrating issue. They said this is the first they've seen so they were going to do a survey. We will see how it turns out. I'm sure I'm not the only one on the Island with this problem just that other owners might not be educated. I made up an excuse for them to check the tranny fluid level as well.

Not sure if this has been answered or not (as i started reading around page 29 of this thread) but is there a DIY for this issue... adhesive between the skin and frame does not seem too big of a job but more so of using the right adhesive. If anyone can chime in, please do so. Thanks!

I would just be worried about jacking up the hood.. to much adhesive or slightly denting it.. not worth it to me considering what I paid for the truck. I'll drive a loaner around for a bit..

Yea true. It's just when u go into dealerships (atleast the ones local to me), I always feel like they dumb me down. I felt like u had to fight someone last time I wanted to get my ATF level checked. Lol. But yea it makes sense to let them handle it. If they screw up, that's their bad. Haha

Not to mention you would be giving them a reason to deny an otherwise justifiable warranty claim.

I may get flak for this since I am not actually doing it, but if I had an OR instead of a Sport and had this issue, I wouldn't hesitate to get a tube of black RTV and gush it up in there. There are many adhesives that would work, and many that won't, but I would be very comfortable with RTV in this application. There are some good adhesives (one and 2 part) that require a longer cure time (some mentioned in this thread), but the main thing is good adhesion with permanent flex and not so much body that it pushes the sheet metal up. Also, if you can sneak an alcohol rag between the metal beforehand you will get even better adhesion. Just let the adhesive do the pushing/oozing out and don't press the hood down onto the framework afterward. This is not a task I would stress too much about.

This is exactly how I feel about this issue. I have a non scoop hood so its really not too big of a deal to squeeze some adhesive on there. I just wanted to see if its been done and what adhesive people recommend.

I bought this truck a week ago and I'm not about to let something that was their fault become my problem. And they ended up doing a write up and submitting it to Toyota Corp.

I had this same exact issue with my truck. Took it to the dealer which then turned them taking it to a body shop to have more sealant added under the hood. Got a call a few hours later saying adding sealant was not safe and the hood must be replaced. Hood was replaced with no problem and was color matched perfect cant even tell hood was replaced, which was surprising considering the inferno color.

So it is considered "normal behavior" without sealant, but adding sealant makes it "not safe". Something fishy went on because several have been resealed per corporate instructions. Methinks they f'd up your hood in the process and just covered there arses.
