OZ you forget that these folks have only watched hockey for four years and even then just for a couple of weeks at a time. You know, all the Pens cup years.

All this change does is eliminate monster goalies from looking better than smaller ones. Now we shall see the skilled goalies come out ahead who can anticipate the shot better.

So because the offence can't score that means it's the goalies pads fault?

I get that the bigger the pads the easier it is to stop a shot, but..

NHL doesn't care how more goals are scored. They just want more goals.

More goals, more celebrations, more people jumping from their seat, more people watching the game.

Big saves are just as exciting as big goals. Like last night when Jones was robbing the Pens. Sucks they didn't go in, but it was still exciting to watch.

    To me at least.

It's not simple cause and effect. I agree with that. However I also think the hockey right now feels boring compared to the hockey right after the lockout. A little shake up is good for the game. Hockey has always changed the rules based on the product. Good examples would be the two line pass, obstruction rules, crease infractions, 7 men on the ice... the list goes on of rules that have been modified over the years from the original game to speed up the flow and excitement of the fastest professional team game.

There were big saves in the 80s and 90s too. The pads they are proposing are about the same size. This isn't a case of shrinking equipment to smaller than it's ever been. It's a case of rolling equipment back from jumbo to regular. Plus now goalies will have to be more acrobatic to make the big saves which will be even more exciting.

You can't change shooting accuracy or defensive tactics easily.

Plus historically goalies have worn smaller pads.

How much bigger are the skaters pads now compared to 10 years ago?

Look at all the shot blocking done before the puck even gets to the goalie. Should the NHL ban sliding to block a shot?

Hmm I disagree. A composite stick is actually more accurate than a wood stick. They have more consistency. The only thing that sometimes makes them appear more inaccurate is how easy it is to unload a one timer or slapshot off a composite stick. Those shots have never been accurate though

This shows how fair weather a fan you are. They DID trim down socks and jerseys a few years ago on the regular skaters. It didn't make a difference so they rolled back to the normal sized stuff. Look up Reebok Edge socks and Jerseys.

Also the NHL rolled down elbow pads a shoulder pads years ago. That was to reduce head injuries though. I still have a set of death pads lol. My elbow pads have a hard plastic shell that sticks out. I don't clip people in beer league though lol.

Jones' big exciting saves last were athletic moves to get a toe or pad on the puck , not just put as much equipment on and go into a butterly and hope to get hit

The athletic saves will increase with less goalie bulk
