    PFD- always, always try on at an outfitter first. When you are in the water, the PFD should not rise above your head. I ended up with a Kokotat- not the one I was looking for. But it felt/fitted the best! Also Astral PFD's are great, made in NC.
    Paddle-- I ended up with a Werner recreational carbon shaft with ability to off-set. I keep my 2 piece paddle at 15 degrees offset. Think about what wet cold hands would feel best on. As @Apexgigi said- you should be able to extend arm above head and just touch tip with last digit on finger for proper length. You most likely not need a high angle paddle in your area.

    First the weeds now pressure washing... I washed in 6 months ago so I'm starting to think its a lost cause. Our yard is a low spot so after it rains it weeps for almost a week and just stains the driveway.
