I had two Ford Rangers FX4 Off Road for the past 16 years ('00 and a '03). Loved them both and they ran like little bulls. Never had any problems with them and only spent money on routine maintenance. Great on road, in the snow or off road. I didn't leave Ford, they left me when they stopped building the Ranger for America.

Got me a Taco two weeks ago. Disappointed with the transmission but the shifting continues to get better with 600 miles on it. Everything else with the truck i'm happy with. I hope my '16 Taco doesn't let me down as i hear everyone that owns one loves them. Stay tuned.

In a few years you can trade it in for a new ranger :p

I do wish Ford jumped back in the sooner. The mid size market is jumping again, and competition is always better for the consumer

Ford has been on a roll, I think they will do well with the Ranger. I just wish they brought it back soon enough to push Toyota even harder on this 3rd gen redesign (before I bought mine anyway).

Nice truck!. Welcome to the TW!

If it looks like the international version, no thanks. If it has some design changes to make it look more like a rugged truck and drop a manual transmission option in it. Well well....

I'm sure it's going to be a bit different looks wise. I would think they would put a manual tranny in it, just because their is still a small market for it and you can no longer get a manual in the full size trucks. But we'll see I suppose. I was hoping they were going to be be out late this year but it seems like it's going to be another year or two

I've had my Taco since February, also a previous Ranger owner. After almost 20 years with the '97 Ford I decided it was time for a new truck. I gave it to my son so at least I get to drive it occasionally. 2500 miles and I still like it, and hope to keep it just as long, although the automatic is indeed bizarre in how it decides to shift.

Congrats!!! After about 1200 miles or so the shifting issues at least on speeds below 60 seems to be a thing of the past. Love my '16 Tacoma!

The down shifting is driving me crazy the most. When slowing down to a stop it down shifts causing an abrupt stop.

I too had a Ranger , a 2000 V6 auto, and loved it. Had my 2016 Taco, V6 auto Access Cab, since last October and love it too. The auto shifts more than my old Ranger 5-speed, but about the same as my wife's 2013 Ford Edge with V6 and 6-speed auto, so it seems about right to me. I use the ECT all the time. I live in hilly country, so I also like the auto downshifting down hill.

That's gone happen for awhile. I got almost 10k on mine and the tranny is much better since "learning' my driving habits. This is my first truck and was very skeptical of the shifting. But I think it's gonna happen with any modern tranny. All about MPG efficiency.

I too am a ranger guy. I had a full size Bronco then a 2006 Ford Ranger Sport 5 speed. Thing was amazing.

I got a TRD OR now. While more refined, it's not as rough around the edges and feels car like at times.

    But it's capable.

I'm currently driving a '04 Ranger 5 speed 4 banger and I love it. Can't go wrong for $2800 from the original owner. I'm selling it to my brother when I pick my taco up, so I'll still be able to drive it from time to time.

image.jpg This was my '03 Ranger a couple of days before I traded it in. Almost spotless, completely stock other than the tonneau, no rust anywhere. I miss it already but really beginning to enjoy the taco.

Have you read around this site for the possible issue you are experiencing with the tranny (low fluid from factory)??

Nice looking truck btw and good luck with it.
