    Hey guys,

So I'm not sure what to do. So I took my truck, tacoma 98, into firestone originally because I knew there was a leak in my clutch fluid as my clutch kept sticking to the floor. So this was my only problem. So first they told me there wasn't a leak and it just needed more fluid which I knew was wrong but I said ok sure. So I paid 50 bucks. Next day obviously is still sticking to the floor or back to sticking to the floor so I take it back in and again tell them its stilling staying to the floor since there is a leak. So of course there is and they say I need a new slave cylinder and recommend the master clutch cylinder to be replaced with it. Since my truck is over 200000 miles I agree and it comes to around 400 bucks.

Here comes the bad part where I need your guys help. Now once I got my truck back I noticed it wasn't shifting correctly. Now instead of my clutch staying to the floor, I can barely get into gear. So my truck was basically burning by the end of the day. It did ok in the morning because it was cool but since im in a desert it gets hot so by the end of the day my truck wouldn't even go into gear. I knew something was wrong. So I take a look and I notice, this is the next day, that the rubber floating thing in the master clutch is not there. I think "hmmm that is odd, toyota parts for that come with the rubber floating device."

So I go back to firestone and tell them my truck is shifting weird and burns at the end of the day and I specifically tell them I think the part they got is missing the rubber piece for the cylinder. They look at my truck but take no notice to that detail. I just adjust my clutch and it run fine again for a day and then it goes back to burning.

Fastforward its 5 days later and my 6th time back at firestone. Finally I demand that they get me new parts as the ones they replaced were the correct ones and they try to say they weren't but agree to get new parts.

Sure enough, this was yesterday, the new part for the clutch master had the rubber floating thing in it. And I know for a fact it must have been the wrong part.

So how do I know if the slave then is the correct part and did that do some major damage to my truck? I can't get the burning smell out and I'm sure if the smell is just from the few days ago or if its still burning. Obviously I wont go back to firestone but what should I do?

    Any advice?

Sounds like you burnt out your clutch linings. The cause was the wrong part installed incorrectly by the repair shop.

I'm thinking you will need a new clutch assembly.

No one is going to win on this situation. Tell the shop you will pay for the new clutch but they have to install it on their dime.

It just sucks though because I just replaced the clutch in 2013. I think it did so much damage and it was running well before. I think a new clutch though is a lot though isn't it?

Trd S\C with nosecone hybrid bearing upgrade kit. 2.0 urd pulley, 7th injector kit-urd "6 fabtech lift with 3" body lift. 20" XD spy wheels with toyo open country r\t's in 37"x 12.50x20. Front and rear diffs re-geared to 4.88 dirty 30 drive axles. and a rhino pack clutch. Custom exhaust and huge mudflaps!
Actually your links are for the 2.4L V4 And his member info shows it's a V-6 liter?? You want a clutch from Urd.com underdogracing.com.
I just got a stage 3+ For my truck for $520.00 I just burned out a rhino?? clutch........Piece of crap smoked pulling a tiny minivan and another couple times pulling a few other vehicles and not even 8000 miles and it almost shot. So i need more clutch hold and with the S\C pushing 37's at 4:88 the o.e.m or equal won't hold under load.

    @vannillaninja
If you wan't and if you have the 3.4l v6 like i think you do i have an exidy clutch stage 2 for $100.00 NIB + Shipping. I paid $175.00 + Shipping and this was before i started re-gearing the beast So i never installed it. I have it in my loot out in the race trailer!

Clutches aren't really that expensive, it's the labor that ends up costing you since they have to drop the trans. Dealerships usually cost way more than an independent transmission shop. I'd find a reputable one of those, just don't go back to Firestone whatever you do

I would guess that Firestone got the First Master/Slave combo there parts vendors had cheap China built Junk that failed from the get go.

Finding a good shop can be hard finding one that knows Toyota`s even harder.

Finding a good shop is worth the search if your not doing most of your work

Depending just on your driving technique your clutch could last a long time .

Then some people can fry a new clutch driving out my driveway
