Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
I wouldn't worry Alex, most of us aren't licensed by a wide margin. At least for now.

    Weaaaaaaak bruh

Also, even IF you get your licensne, just know that it is also illegal to TX to an unlicensed "station"!!! So, if the person you are TX'ing to does NOT have a license then, even though, say you are within the 2m band (144-148), for example, they do NOT have a license!!! Just know and understand that even after you get your license!!!

I'm hoping after I go through all of the needed learning to get licensed, I will understand what you're talking about. Haha

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Forget Denny, LOL!!! Nah, Denny is a pretty knowledgeable dude!!!

Typically, you want to TX on the lowest wattage setting! At least, that is what they stress you do as a HAM operator!!! It just all depends on how far out you want to TX???!!! 1W, is NOT very powerful and you will probably only achieve about a mile, more than likely, less than a mile???!!! The point is though, the more wattage, typically, the farther out you will reach!!!

The reason a person can hit a repeater that is far, far away, say about 50+ mi on about 3Watts, is because a repeater can pick up EXTREMELY WEAK signals and "re-broadcast" at high wattage output!!!

So, I did some quick reading and WHY bother with a MURS (Multi-Use Radio Service) radio system???!!! You are limited to 2W!!! Repeaters are NOT allowed for its use either? People, there comes a point-in-time to where if you are serious about wanting "communications" then you simply have to put in the effort of either:
    1) taking the HAM TEST to get licensed so you can use repeaters for extreme long distance (i.e. at your disposal)
    2) spend approx $100 for a decent CB setup
    3) OR, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, both CB and HAM (i.e. HAM with a license)

Think about it, if you get a HAM radio without a license:
    1) you are STILL limited to SHORT RANGE communications because you canNOT use a repeater
    2) you are risking getting a serious $10,000 fine w/ possible jail time if caught
    3) AT THAT POINT, and with all that said, you might as well just have a CB setup!!! Plus, overall, a CB is MUCH, MUCH EASIER to use because you just simply select a channel, DONE!!! There is NO fumbling around on WHAT is the freq that someone is on out of the 100's, if not 1,000's of frequencies to choose from!!!

Something to take into consideration for getting a HAM license (NOTE: READ some of my earlier posts in this thread as well)
You can utilize the HAM for long distance communications IF it is needed to do so without needing to worry about texting on a phone and\or waiting for text replies. Then simply switch over to CB when ON the actual trail run itself!!!

Just my humble opinion on the matter and food for thought :D;):cheers:

Do you think you could recommend me a decent CB setup on a budget? I honestly have no clue what I need to get started.

Hey Kevin, how have you been since the beach meet?

I'll just start with the radio first, there are basically two kinds:
    1) a mobile like the Uniden Pro505XL (4W max)
    2) HT (Hand Transceiver) or handheld CB radio like the COBRA HH 38 WX ST (approx 2W max)
    3) there is a hybrid type that Midland makes: Midland 75-822 (approx 2W max)

NOTE: I say "approx 2W" for the handhelds because ALL of the handhelds that I've ever TESTED output power, even on its HIGH setting, has always been approx 2W max!!! I'm thinking the manufacurers do this to conserve battery power??? All I do know is that I still have yet to see a handheld output 4W, which is the max output power for CB! Keep in mind that that 2 extra watts does help a little!!! But is it absolutely crucial, NO!!!

The "hybrid" type like the Midland is VERY NICE" because you can quickly go from a hand held to a mobile and there is no need to "mount" the radio! But, like I said, 2W is just about max! My humble opinion, I would recommend a mobile! I have the Midland just because of its uniqueness and also just... well, just because, LOL!!!

    This!!!

The Uniden Pro505XL can be bought for approx $28 (i.e. this does NOT include tax and shipping though) on Amazon! It is a nice radio and have personally used it as well!

Whenever someone asks, even when "on a budget", I always discuss the other options as well, just so that they know what is out there on the market! THEN, they can decide IF they still want to go the budget route!!! BUT, that is just me :notsure:

Also, I NEVER assume that a person is gonna want to hard mount their antenna system. There are also different mounting brackets as well!!! Just say'n :notsure:
