ditto for me, that first 500 miles is the absolute worse for the engine because of the shear amount of metal alone. will do 3500 next then probably will add my Amsoil at that change.

Just as Wilson said , better off going to the dealer. And some dealers are cheaper than Jiffy lube. Jiffy lube has a problem with over charging & scamming people into other services & then not doing those services.

I did my first oil-change at about 1500 miles, thinking of it as a break-in, plus I was taking a trip and wanted clean oil in the truck for that. After putting 3000 miles on the new oil, it still looks very clean. I will probably change it every 3-5000 miles from here on out depending on use, number of months since last changed, etc.

Wal-Mart auto centers are just as bad as J lube.

I'm lucky, my local garage charges me 10 bucks for labor. I provide the oil and filter. Heck I can't get dirty and drag all the tools out for 10 bucks.

Sounds like a steal. I was going to take it to the dealer but having second thoughts. I have 1500 miles on it but been reading that its good to change out the oil early. but want to know how bad it is if i wait to 3k

    getting there....
it wont hurt to leave the oil in til 3k miles, but the earlier you do it, the less wear metals you'll see...........meaning you'll get rid of the break in crap thats in there now if ya go ahead and do it.

Those of you who did their first oil change early (e.g. 1500mi), how did the oil and filter look? Was it clean or full of metal deposits. Anyone with pics?

I'm planning on buying toyota filter and changing it myself around 1500.

My oil looked clean at 1k but I didn't take a magnet through it or anything. I have a cousin that is a Toyota master mech. He told me 1k with dino oil and then at 5k with Mobil1, every 5k after that.

Plus one, I got mine done at 1500 miles too. I had the dealer throw in an oil change and 2 full tanks of gas so I got my gas and oil change as soon as possible just in case they "forgot" they promised me that...

None currently, but I would like a better sounding exhaust and perhaps a cold air pack and some color coded step bars
I did my oil at 3,000, after switching to Mobil 1 I run it till the light comes on, shut it off and change it at about 6200. If by chance the oil were to get dirty sooner I would change it out. My thoughts are with a good filter, its a waste of hard earned money to change out Mobil 1, when it doesn't need it.
However, lots of guys like to change there oil at 3 or 5 thousand and thats OK .
The main thing is frequent on time changes with quality filters and oil.

    Jeff 06 V6,6spd,4x4, SR5 a beautiful color red, 22 thousand
