@Johnlovesbikes congrats! I've used costco b4 and it makes for an extremely easy transaction. I think that other TW members that have tried Costco in SoCal (for the '16 Tacoma) have not been as lucky w/ pricing as low as yours. Makes me wonder if this so cal dealer (HB Toyota) is pricing so low to ensure they have no 2016's when the 2017's start arriving in ~3 months. @Johnlovesbikes any idea of when your truck will arrive?

I was only speaking about my experience, but ok enjoy your truck!
    Ken Howard Manhattan Beach Toyota.
I have no idea, my dealer said he would let me know as soon as the factory accepted my order, which seems to be inline with what others on this site have experienced.

Thanks. I just didn't see cruise control on my spec sheet for the TRD Sports that I ordered.

The annoying thing was the fact that there's no homelink on any model except the limited. Pretty dumb buying a truck for as much as these trucks are to not have such a basic feature.

I think it should have it. If not, I will withdraw my deposit.

It's all good. I just wanted to let others know that the Costco price is different from region to region. I'm actually glad you posted about your deal. Your offer was so good that I decided to Google "Fleet Manager Manhattan Beach Toyota". I then sent an email to the Internet/Fleet Director, telling him I am registered with the Costco Program and I gave him a description of the Tacoma I want (4x4 DCSB OR A/T w/HH, TO).

He had one of the fleet managers, Gonzalo Casillas, contact me with a quote for the exact build. (a side note: The SD fleet manager only wanted to sell me one of their allotted models.) In any case, Gonzalo answered all of my questions regarding the breakdown in price. Like yours, the Costco price was invoice + $150. This is $2685 below MSRP.

Gonzalo said, "The expected build time is 8-10 weeks, and to secure this we would need a 500 dollar deposit. We are still taking orders for the 2016 due to the fact that the 2017 will be slightly more expensive and that has not been disclosed to use yet also we have not been allowed to order them yet." (re: unable to order 2017, the Costco rep told me they don't have pricing yet for the 2017s).

And for all of the others looking for a "deal", I asked him about referring others to him and he said, "...... yes sir, if you have friends or family that are looking for a new Toyota I would be more than happy to extend the same level of service I have given you." So the first step is signing up for the Costco Auto Plan, then contact Gonzalo (gonzaloc@manhattanbeachtoyota.com) or any of the other fleet managers and get your Tacoma ordered! Now I just have to get the OK from my "Director of Finance". You know, it is true what they say about "Happy wife, .......".

If you're not a Costco member, a one year membership is $55.

So I just went to a dealership in my area (Austin, TX) and got a quote on a Quicksand TRD Offroad access cab 4x4 v6 with the least amount of options as possible. He said they would not go down off of MSRP because this specific configuration is a unicorn (which to his credit there were only 4 that matched this configuration in Texas). [IMG] What do you guys think? Would i be getting shafted here? Total OTD would be like almost 38000 with tax and registration. What can i do about this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I wanted to pay at most 35000 OTD, but is that possible? 38000 just seems like waayyy too much to me. I see people getting them in this thread for like invoice +500. How can i do that??

Short answer is be willing to travel to pick one up, and start calling multiple dealers out of town. I recommend at least 4-6 minimum.

Jordan at Village Pointe Toyota in Omaha NE got me an excellent deal. Tell him Jon from Vegas referred you.

Also, use truecar.com to check what others are paying and aim for the left third of the bell curve after you input all options, etc.

Finally, use the carbuyingtips.com spreadsheet to compare offers.

Never mind that unicorn bullshit, they can build one for you exactly how you want it! Don't they have Costco in Texas? Get a membership and get a referral for a Costco dealer. Once you have seen the price in the book, order the Tacoma you want plain and simple. Trust me on this, get a Costco membership...

I wouldn't take that number, it's BS that they won't come down from that number. Remember almost any dealer can swap trucks with another dealer in the same area, so contact some more dealers and let them know what you want and what you think is a fair price. Start negotiating with them from that point. Once you get a better offer, go back to the other guys and say "hey, I have another dealer saying I get a similar truck for $x, can you do better?". And then go back and forth a couple times with all the dealers you talk to and when the lowest number comes in or there's only one dealer left, go with that one. Also check out Lone Pine Toyota in Bastrop, I didn't get a truck from there but a guy named Jimmy was super helpful when I was going through that exact process last month.

It's all about supply and demand. At 4 dealerships, I told the salesmen/mgrs that I was working with the Costco dealer and I wanted a price of $500 over invoice. They all said they start at MSRP+ and that was the end of the negotiations. I think you may need a plan B!

You're right, you need to understand what the market forces are. If demand is high and supply is low, of course they're not going to give it away to you for that. I think there's a fair amount of luck, but I also think doing a bit of homework and being patient, you can get a good deal on the truck. Good deal may not always be $x amount over invoice because of exactly what you said, they either can't or won't go that low since the trucks are hot commodities. But, if you can get a truck for a maybe a little over what you originally planned and is still well below MSRP (never pay that number!) then I think it could be worthwhile. The final piece really amounts to how much you want to the truck and how much you can afford.

Just walked away from 36190 "invoice" price that included ~750 TDA, am I right think I should be able to talk them off the TDA? The Sales Manager kept telling me how Colorado (Denver) isn't a distressed market, new model, Tacos are in high demand, average time on lot is 6 days, bla bla bla.

So 36190 is where we'd start, then they want a $499 delivery & handling fee for all sales, so I'm sitting at 36689 + TTL. Am I wrong for thinking I can do better?

    Truck specs:
TRD OFF ROAD DOUBLE CAB 4X4 V6 AUTO........... $ 31582
OR/Sport Prem & Tech Pkg no JBL (DC Only)....... $ 2074
    Towing Package.................................. $ 579
    Mudguards....................................... $ 95
All Weather Liner Plus Door Sill Protectors..... $ 134

I paid a little more for mine 36900 dclb with jbl. It's a fair deal if you like the truck go for it. I like most had to wait 2 months for my truck to be delivered. If it's on the lot it probably won't be there long for that price.

check truecar.com, ignore the promised price, look at the bell curve. If your price isn't on the left-hand side of the bell curve, haggle or shop elsewhere. Call out of town if you need to.

Good afternoon - newbie on the forum here and it has been 16 years since I purchased a new Taco and have a question.

I want to buy a specific truck configuration but can never seem to find the combination being available on toyota.com and not sure wehere to go for the answers.....

I am looking for a 4 door, M/T, V6, OR TRD, Silver with JBL package, sunroof and all the aminities in regards to the technology packages.

Not sure how to find out if such a configuration is even possible. Local dealers are always pushing me to buy what they can get but when I purchased my first Taco in 2000 they custom built to my specs.....

Does Toyota still custom build to spec like they used to??

Thanks for any leads on this....

You can't get the JBL with that package everything would work though. Build it using the Toyota website and you can print it as a pdf. I would then contact the dealers and provide this info. Unfortunately Toyota doesn't let you order a custom configuration and have it shipped to the dealer.

I tried to build what you are asking for and it is limited to certain colors and silver is not one of them. Kind of stupid
