Closed (for now): Group Buy: IEDLS Polyurethane Carrier Bearing

The 12 - 15 Tacomas appear to have a different driveshaft. Mine fit so poorly when I installed it, I ended up taking it off and reinstalling the OEM bearing.

 

Don't know what to tell you abiut that. Mine fit just fine and we are both 12-15.

 

I believe Everything is seated. Did you guys end up with these gaps, and did you get the nut on further than I did?

 

That's exactly how mine sat on my 2014. That's why I went back to stock.

 

OK. The bearing is sealed so the dust caps don't really matter. The nut I put licktite and restaked it. I was more concerned that everything is seated.

 

IT'S NORMAL.

There was no need to go back to stock, as the way it was sitting on yours and his is normal.

Alright, another successful DCSB install

Home Depot didn't have any 1" steel square tubing so I started looking for other options for spacers.

These threaded connectors for joining threaded rod together were right next to the steel section. I figured I could cut these down to work as spacers.



I got lucky though. These spacers in conjunction with the drop spacers I'd already had installed put the new bearing in the exact same spot as the factory one. Since I didn't have s problem with vibes this was good.



And the finished product:







Side note. First time I've seen one of these ridiculous Moog flat grease fittings. Some things just do not need to be "improved"...



I had to go buy this to grease the damn thing.

 

THIS. this happened to me exactly. I have a 2005 and it's been this way for a bit. I really hope my driveshaft doesn't break or something. Less area of the teeth are now connecting together, but it should be ok I hope.

Eventually I'll get a new driveshaft maybe and a better fitting bushing.

 

Why a new drive shaft? What's wrong with the one you have? I think your only options for bearings are stock or this Ranger one?

 

It's oem 2005 old, driveshaft specifically isn't in the best shape after lousy mechanic or previous owner had at it. It's good enough for now, but I don't like to trust things on good enough.

I totally forgot I have this part sitting in my tool chest.

 

How large were those bolts you got for it? mm wise, and how thick were those flat spacers you put the threaded couplers over?

That was actually an option I was exploring when it came to flipping the CB.

 

UPDATE for those who are still interested in picking these up!!

I sent an email to Jeff @IEDLS asking what happened to the group buy deal and he told me that they would be willing to do it again but this time it would be done via website promo code most likely. I sent him a reply back so I am waiting on a pending go-ahead, but I think this GB shall be opening back up real soon once again!

 

The couplers were for 5/8 threaded rod. I believe the flat spacers are 3/8 thick. I'd have to measure again.

 

Update:

Tear apart #3 and flip it.
I found some of the couplers (not quite 2") at "L" big box store and had to go to "A" big box store for M10-1.25 X 75 (50MM too short as were 60MM).
Drive line angle more close to OEM center support bearing.
Vibration is still present.
Had a buddy look at what I was doing for a 2nd set of eyes and right off the bat stated "it looks like your flange is clocked a spline or two off where is should be".

Question for all the DIY guys. how are you getting the old bearing off and the new one on? Some 3 jaw pullers for taking it off and a bfh and socket / tube to press the new one on?

 

Mine came right off without a bearing puller as did the flange but (MARK your flange splines otherwise introducing out of balance issues)

 

Oh no shit? they didnt need to be pressed on / wernt hard to pull off?
