    Hey guys,

I just recently swapped the stock Air filter off my 2015 TRD Sport Tacoma with an AFE Pro Dry S air filter. Since then, i'm noticing my gas burning faster, which results in lower mileage, as well as my RPM increasing higher than normal.

I've been watching my driving habit and haven't been driving fast or crazy. I like to keep my RPM lower than 2k while driving City and relativity the same when driving Highway, with the occasional 2 - 2.5k when I past a certain MPH.
Now when I drive around 60mph, it stays above 2k RPM, even when i'm not throttling the gas. Before with the stock filter, when I was driving 60mph, my RPM would definitely be lower than 2k.

Has anyone experienced this? I've read many great reviews regarding the AFE Pro Dry filters, which is the reason why I bought one. I've seen in another thread about the possibility of letting it settle?

Any thoughts and/or help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Toss a regular paper filter back in and see if that reverses your problem. If not, something else is the problem.

+1 Idle is 1 thing but at highway speeds once your converter locks up the RPM only depends on gearing & tire size

Are you sure you are putting the shifter in "D" and not "4"? It's a sideways bump of the shifter if I'm not mistaken for you automatic guys.

Yeah, im going to do that, but i wanted to see if "settling" as the other thread mentioned would help.

No, im 100% certain it was on D. I never put it on 4 and if it was, i would know.

I also realized while driving, i switched my gear to Neutral, the RPM stick tends to jump up and down a few times as I'm coming to a slow stop.
Could this have something to do with the afe air filter, or possibly my car CPU is off?

I really want to keep the aFe air filter, but i'm not sure if its messing with the cpu/gauges.

Almost 4 years with my AFE Pro S air filter and no issues at all. But then again I have this instead of a drop in :D

BTW no issues either with my mpg so not sure with your 2015 :notsure:

I think you're seeing the tranny downshifting as you slow. Mine does the same, RPM's jump a hundred or two with each gear until I stop. I won't bash the taco trans on this forum, I value my safety, but "other " transmissions have eliminated this for many years now. Auto reviews & blogs always pick nits about it, you're not alone.

Oh ok, thanks! Maybe i was being paranoid and trying to relate it to the aFe air filter. I'm just going to give it a week so to see if it'll "settle." If not, im going to switch back to stock filter

I had an AFE pro dry in my 07 for 9 years.......never had any issues and never had any mileage decrease or increase.

Have you had it in long enough to let the ECU adjust? You should stick to a normal driving pattern for a period of time and let things settle. The more you adjust your driving / shifting / changes - it can't adjust.

So after doing more research, I decided to unplug BOTH EFI fuses in the fusebox for 5 minutes. I heard this process resets the ECU and it's beneficial after doing any mod to your vehicle that affects the performance. Anyways, after plugging it in and driving, my RPM returned to normal and my truck is no longer burning through gas at an excel rate.

I wanted to thank everyone for their input and I hope this helps anyone in the future with a similar issue!
