Howdy all, I'm a Firefighter, STNA, and a full time nursing student. I joined here because I plan on buying a tacoma after I graduate in a few months and get a job as an RN. Right now I'm milking every last mile out of my 1998 GMC Jimmy 4x4. Love the truck, and I plan on keeping it, but I need something more reliable. I thought about a colorado, but GM is being retarded, so I'm looking elsewhere. Just trying to figure out what mods I can do in the future, First will be a strobe lightbar and siren for the FD. Along with some upgrades in the tunes dept. Then maybe tires and a lift.

Everyone here seems to be very friendly and helpful from what I've read. I'm looking forward to learning, and maybe contributing myself in the future!

be mindful of state laws governing the use of flashing lights on the road...and check with your insurance company about it too

many wont cover any collisions youre involved in if youre running lights and sirens...

AND you CAN be charged as at fault even if your lights and sirens are operational

just because you have 4million lights and the loudest siren out there doesnt mean everyone will see you OR get out of the way in time for you

If you get anything other than an Xrunner...they arent designed for high speed manuevering thats sometimes necessary in emergency vehicles

    think safe

i know, i aint the brightest bulb on the christmas tree but i am one of the first to preach about getting to the scene safely.

i go routine traffic in my POV no matter what the call

but i still take pride in the loudest and most lit up truck in the county :D

and in the state of NC the lights on personal vehicles are considered courtesy lights, they in no means require citizens to move, also all traffic laws must be obeyed

that means no running red lights stop signs, OBEYING SPEED LIMIT ect...

you aint no good if you cant make it there safely!

Oh I know all about that, in Ohio we are trained and inspected, and to the best of my knowledge we are considered emergency vehicles when running L/S. We are SOL if we are in an accident, however, its just driving smart.

I've already been reading up on tons of different mods on here. Lifts, lights, tunes, etc. The only thing I haven't seen that I have with my GMC is nobody is doing engine swaps! One of my goals is to swap a 6.0L V8 from a 2500HD pickup in my Jimmy. I would love to do the same to a Tacoma!
