    The hangover is real....

If anyone is around there's a masstuning meet today for frozen yogurt and the proceeds go to service dogs to buy vests for them. We are also matching the raised money to support a local evo member that passed this past week.

It's great, we really like it! This is the first time I logged in since Thursday. We drove down on Friday, left at 5 AM, picked up the camper and set up camp for the night. I got really sick Friday night and have been running a fever of 101 since then. We drove for 5 hours from PA to Albany to stay the night with my parents and will be leaving soon to head home. I drove from PA to here just towing with a regular ball, I set up the W/D hitch so we'll see if it makes a difference, it's definitely not really needed but figured if I have it, why not give it a shot. I got a whopping 10 mpg from PA to here but it was pretty much all mountains, the Poconos then the Catskills and I held 70 with cruise control the whole time.

Not sure I like the W/D hitch, made the truck feel 'springy'. Almost like when you have springs that are way too powerful for the shocks to handle. It was really windy also so it was not an overly fun ride, trailer needs a sway controller for high cross winds. I'll give the W/D hitch another shot in lower winds to see how it does but I'm thinking it'll probably go back to my dad. I think I regular ball mount with a sway control and it'll tow like a dream in just about any conditions.

What kind did you get? I had the Reese Straightline and if you cranked on the torsion bars you could get that feeling. Did they give you a baseline adjust location?

It's an old Reese that my dad had from his old camper. We set it up in his driveway. We set the ball height, lowered the trailer onto the ball, the truck dropped about 1-3/4, we cranked the chain so it would only be about 1" off the unloaded mark. We didn't put a lot onto the spring bars, it didn't take a lot of effort to tighten them because we didn't want to unload the rear too much. I'll try them again in lower winds and see how they do. Worst case, I go back to the normal ball, the truck can definitely handle it.

His trailers were heavier than mine, the spring bars might just be too stiff for the light trailer.

How much does the trailer weigh? I have no problems using just a ball to tow my off road rig. I think I am somewhere around 5K pounds.
