she wants to chop his balls!

so the misses is starting to hound me about neutering our boy tank. hes coming up on 6 months old so i guess its around the right time but im not feeling it at all one bit. i dont understand the point of getting a male dog to chop off his bits? this is my first dog i had a golden retriever when i was young but she was a female and got knocked up by accident so i see geting her fixed but taking my boys balls just hurts me inside. she tells me if he keeps them and doesnt use them ie breeding he has a very high chance of tes cancer. am i in the wrong for wanting to keep them? heres some pics of how big hes getting.

 

all my dogs have had their balls chopped off. it also calms then down. i def. saw a difference after i had one of my labs neutered. much calmer (this was a while after too) id say unless you plan on breeding, get him chopped.

 

Fix'em. They're annoying when they're horny.

 

I got my cattle dogs nuts chopped the day after he started humping. He's still bat shit insane without'em but he'd be uncontrollable if you threw testosterone in with his personality.

 

Cut them off and hang them from your back bumper!

My pups name is Tank also . He is 4 months old now, but will be getting his balls chopped off in a couple months.

Neutering before maturity decreases the chance of many negative behaviors, the most being aggression. It will allow your pup to be more calm and mellow without having to deal with all those raging hormones and not having a release...remember being a hormonal teenager, at least you had a way to release .
It also decreases the chances of various cancers.

 

One more vote for the "fix him" crowd. Just watched an episode of Dog Whisperer a Caesar had his little Bulldog fix. They talked about all of the benefits and the only reason you wouldn't do it is if you are planning on breeding. It's borderline cruel for an intact animal to not be able to mate and tends to make males aggressive as well as the increased chance for teste cancer.

 

Happened with my Doberman I used to have, he started getting more and more aggresive with his bits intact so they had to go.

 

We had both my dogs neutered...

 

If you do not plan to breed him then there is no negative outcome from neutering. Plus, if he were to get out of your control he would not be impregnating someone elses females. There are too many dogs and cats killed everyday in shelters.

 

We breed chows for 15 yrs, and if your not going to use him for breeding you are way better off to get him fixed. Plus once they have breed they are harder to control. Just my 2 cents !

 

Go volunteer at a rescue shelter for a day so you can see all of the dogs that are euthanized daily due to people that don't get their dogs fixed.

If you really feel like you will be less of a man if your dog gets fixed then your not much of a man to begin with.

Can't comment about the cancer comment, but you'll have a more sane home if you do chop them. If you're not breeding him then lose 'em. Besides, she looks damn hot - keep her happy.

 

All six of mine (both male-4 and female-2) are fixed. I go along with JNL from Atl...go to a animal shelter and look at all the homeless animals who are killed because no one wants them (I'd like to catch some bastard dumping a dog...I'd have their balls). It's called being a responsible pet owner. Not only does it cut down aggression it may in some instances cut down on the wandering away from home for some animals.
