Lord Humongous Gigahorse Tow-coma Build

Hey all! You've all inspired me to start my build thread. This is my first Taco and honestly don't know what took me so long to get it! It wheels like jeep (maybe better), carries blocks and lumbar from home Depot and is one bad ass ride for date night!
I'm already few upgrades deep so the first couple of post will be just mainly pics. Also a cool way to timestamp my mods! No real time line on the truck. Some mods are for necessity and some for pure coolness! I do hope to be done with the major upgrades by next year just so I can start saving for the first 4x4 electric hub drive turbine hybrid Taco!

My first big mod to the truck was the addition a switch-pro system and an

$323 ARB CKMA12 On-Board Air Compressor High Performance 12 Volt for Air Locker Differentials and Tire Inflation

ARB CKMA12 compressor. The switch pro is mounted to a blank bussman plate I got from tacoma pros. I cut the accessory wires short and attached them to a 30 amp terminal block via ring terminals. I did this to keep things organized until the switch/button is needed.
I didn't want to throw the switch plate on blank so I added the inserts of the most probable mods. 8 buttons are allot of options! I was saving the aux button for a winch interupter when I get to that but I may just use the blank on the dash for a separate switch.
The only issues had with installation was finding a good ignition sense signal. The switch pro can be programmed to allow buttons to work only when the ignition is on or certain buttons work when off. The ignition sense source is needed to tell the switchpro how these buttons are programmed and to activate the back lighting of the button pad. Most of the fuse box is either hot all the time (switchpro never turns off) or switch determinate (switch pro only comes on when headlights or air-conditioner is on lol) I initially taped into the ing2 main relay. This worked perfectly (switchpro turns on when you push the start button and turns off when the truck shuts down) but I didn't like the hooptyness of a none fused wire running to a relay. I ended up getting some low pro add a circuits and tapped the INJ fuse with a 10 amp fuse. This works just as the ingnation relay did.
Next was the compressor. I installed in anticipation of installing FireStone ride rite bags. I could have went with an firestone or airlift compressor and had in cab adjustment but those compressors are only good for filling bags. I wanted the ability to fill tires, bags, fly fishing pontoon, front locker ect so I chose ARB. The bed was the best position since that's where I'll be using it most. I had to add about 10 feet to the wiring harness to get it to reach. Kinda of a PIA running the wire through the frame with my meaty powerlifting paws.
I ordered a tuffie security bed box for the compressor so I will have room to keep tools in there as well. The tuffie box is much bigger than the stock cubby. It is on back order till late June. I'll update once it arrives

 

Next up was Icon suspension, Firestone ride rite air bags and daystar floating airbag cradles. Install wasn't too bad aside from doing it in my driveway at 118 degrees. I also attempted to put the the upper coilover bolts in upside down like the factory studs but luckily some members were able to correct me. I ran the airlines for the bags out to the rear bumper and slapped some sweet eyeball valve stem covers on them. I've using a tire deflator to adjust the bags for load carrying. The cradles are working as designed and the icons ride ridiculously well. Exceeding my expectations so far!
Not sure about tires yet. I'll be towing a 3000lb jayco camper from Phoenix to Hawley lake in the next couple of weeks. If she struggles on the hills with the stock tires I probably won't go bigger but may throw a mud terrain on for looks.

Last pick is parked next to my buddy/crewmember lifted 2015 behind the fire station.

 

Last night I ordered Cali Raised ditch light brackets, bracket extensions and 4 3x2 cree led pods and tekonsha p3 trailer brake controller. Also have my first toyota care service next week. I'm gonna see what the dealer wants for the oem roof rack. If it's ridiculous I'll get it from Amazon or ebay. I need a place to carry my 14' fishing poles

Also thinking about a winch. Leaning towards the cbi highpoint front recovery and the smittybilt black box setup. Trying to keep my truck close to factory weight and aerodynamics.
*edit* smittybilt got back to my enquiry about the black box. It weighs 100lbs empty with no handles? Is that a joke lol. once it's loaded with a winch and gear it could be easily 200lbs! I'll be looking for other options now...

Maybe a snorkel? I think they look sweet and the cyclonic pre filter options are great for the dust on Arizona trails. I read thats actually the reason snorkels are frequent dealer options in Australia, not necessarily for submarining. Good enough excuse for me!

 

I added a few things like weather techs avs bugshield 2, Nfab 3" bars and a few more things I'm probably forgetting right now. I was initially thinking sliders but went with nfab due weight to benefit ratio. Trying to keep the truck light as possible and if I hear the nfab bar hit I'll just back up lol. Most of my offroad travels are 100s of miles of forest roads and Sandy washes. Not too much rock crawling happening in this truck!

 

Nice truck! I was originally dead set on kings, but all the pleased people with icon have me confused on my decision.

 

I was thinking the same exact thing. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to ride in trucks equipped with both. I thought the icons rode nicer. If I was building a purpose built buggy I'd definitely go with kings though. Their reliability and overall performance is second to none.

 

How you liking the Ride Rites? I'm about to order them right freaking now but I'm trying to hold off. I've wanted them for 5 years or so but just never ordered.
Does it make the ride alot better? I don't want to buy a badass spring pack because funds are low and i can get the ride rite setup for $250.00. Then I'd have to get a compressor too.

 

I like them so far. I repaired a half cinder block this past weekend for my mother in law. The taco was SQUATTING big time with 18 blocks, 18 feet of rebar and 3 bags of mortar in the back. The bags brought it up to level and rode very nice. If you 4x4 those daystar cradles are something to consider as well.

Got 4, 3x2 cree led pods from caliraised today. Ditch light brackets and extensions are on backorder. Hoping for next week. At least I had a 9 volt battery lying around so I could play!
I figure while I wait I might as well send the switch-pro pad in for a firmware update so it will link to my Samsung GS7.

Installed CaliRaised ditch light brackets, ditch light bracket extensions and 4 CaliRaised 2x3 cree led pods. Also made a wiring harness, wrapped it in plastic loom and wired it to the switch pro. Looks almost factory.

How much light do they provide? I have no idea. I sent out the switch-pro button panel last week for a firmware update so the Bluetooth will work with my samsung GS7. I won't be able to test my work for a week or so until it comes back lol
Not sure if the lights will work with the safari snorkel once it's released but I can always flip the extensions and move the lights medial.

 

I also took my Mom and Pops for a ride today around saguaro lake. I loaded up my dad's 50 gallon water bladder he uses for a camper tender. My rear AAL has been a little stiff and have been contemplating ordering the deaver long travel packs. I flexed out the suspension numerous times and hits few speed runs with the extra 400lbs of water out back. After draining the bladder the difference was amazing!!! The AAL softened up a ton up and settled about .25 inches!!! I didn't take any pics of the wheeling but I did manage to take some pics of some wild horses playing in the dirt

 

Installed the OEM roof rack. I looked at few aftermarket ones and actually liked the OEM the best because it doesn't block my sunroof. Install was about an hour and pretty straight forward. Now my 14 foot fly rods have a place for safe travel.

Got my Switch-Pro panel back from ORE with updated firmware for bluetooth connectivity to newerwireless devices. Pretty quick turn around for the update. I'm LOVING this system even more now! Bluetooth works about 80 feet in a straight line and battery programed switches can be operated via Bluetooth whenthe vehicle is off! Camp Security!

Oh and the wiring harness I made for the ditch lights actually works lol

Also swapped the silver Phillips screws for black allen screws while reinstalling the panel. Looks much better IMO.

 

These caliraised led pods are impressive! I was skeptical because they are a 1/4 of the price of most of their competitors but they definatly deliver and are on par with the bigger manufacturers!!!
So impressed I actually just ordered a couple more pods for auxiliary reverse lights.
I'm also thinking about one of there lightbars once I get ahold of that SOS slimline bumper
