I haven't had it shut off on me... I would assume it will just overheat if you run it too long, or overload and blow the fuse

I recommend screaming in the most shrill fashion you can muster while randomly stabbing the sidewall as fast as you can. I find that everyone nearby notices what a Bad Ass you are if you do it that way.

If you're lucky the cops even come to watch... assuming they aren't too busy doing other things.

If you get a free ride in the backseat with the cops, that's bonus points as well

Hello, if you look at my signature links you will see one for deflating for sand driving...

To answer more of your question:
I have gone down to 8 psi a couple times to get out of really fine, dry sand, and no issues with the beads popping.

When you are below 15 psi, don't turn suddenly but instead make wide arcs to change direction, at speed... and speed should not be too high either. Also, slow down gently... no slamming the brakes! Both fast turns and slamming brakes can pop your bead.

Do not go over rocks at speed when your air is way low in the tires.

Typically, I drop to 20-25 psi off pavement (dirt roads). I drop to 15 psi for beach sand. This with Hankook DynaPro ATM, BFG Rugged Trail TA, Pep Boys Dakota AT, Cooper Discoverer ATR, Toyo Open Country AT... all terrain tires.

If you have 3 ply sidewalls or using mud terrain tires, then 10 psi may be the sweet spot for deep sand, as it was when I ran Cooper Discoverer STT tires and my friend ran BFG All Terrain TA tires.

To refill, I have the MV-50 Tsunami pump and the Harbor Freight General Pneumatic pump... both clip directly to the battery and pump 3 times faster than the cigarette lighter powered pumps. 5-6 psi per minute vs. 2 psi per minute, refill rate.

I use the Trailhead deflators. Made in US. Comes with a handy laminated card with psi suggestions - except print is small and I gotta put on my reading glasses.
    https://www.amazon.com/TRAILHEAD-Ti...8&qid=1465926489&sr=1-7&keywords=air+deflator
As soon as you screw them on, they start deflating to preset setting. Mine are set to about 15psi - I do mostly sand riding.

I like the 60psi tire idea to inflate tires. My spare can hold 80psi. Thanks for the suggestion, US Marine.

My bro gave me a Q industries MV50 compressor from Costco, circa 2010 as a xmas gift. It gets hot quickly but it's still holding up.

I have the same deflators. Recently I noticed some of them deflate faster than others. Maybe I should put a drop of lube in them? They are about a year old.

Could just be the spring inside. As it wears out, its gonna deflate faster, but also could mean it won't stop at one point and could fail, so watch them.

I have always done well by depressing the valve stem with a pen cap or tiny screwdriver to deflate. Works every time, needs no calibration and costs nothing.

Hey Guys - I'm waiting for my ARB Twin Compressor CKMT12 to arrive. I don't want to permanently install it on the truck, but want to have it in a decent case for portability between vehicles. I was looking at the portable CKMTP12, with the included tank and hose, but that costs twice as much. Does anyone have any ideas on what kind of cases are out there that this compressor would fit snugly?

Look into the hard plastic cases, ie. Pelican, Plano, Rakshak... My compressor came in a convas bag that fits neatly behind the rear seat.

The key is to use a high quality deflator like your Kershaw. Check out what happens when deflating a tire using a coldsteel item ;) No off roading for that guy

I had one before I did my Viair OBA, so I plumbed it into the tank also as a little extra boost. Once it overheats, it has a thermal protect circuit built in that shuts it down. When it cools off enough it will start working again.
