The old 'pimp cane' e-brake in my '04 hardly holds my truck, if I'm on a hill the truck will start to slip backwards even with the brake pulled tight. Is there an easy DIY way to tighten it?

I did search but "Tighten E-brake" only yielded one 7 year old thread that linked to a write-up that was no longer available.

    Thanks guys and gals

Try backing up slowly and stopping using the ebrake a bunch of times in a row. If that doesn't do it, you'll have to pull off the drums and check out the adjuster. You could also pull back the bellcrank boot to check for rust. If those aren't lubed regularly they can get stuck, causing the ebrake to not work at all.

I'll try that, thanks. I was exaggerating a bit in in saying that it 'hardly holds' my truck, it does hold it but if I'm on a steep hill it will slowly start to move. It just makes me nervous when I have to park my truck off-roading on a hill. I always keep it in gear when parked but a tight, working e-brake is added peace of mind.

There is adjustment at the intermediate lever located in front of the fuel tank

You need some sort of adjustment as the cables do stretch over time.

Then the rear shoes must be adjusted correct to allow the E-Brake to keep the shoes adjusted

Sounds a little more involved than I anticipated lol, I'll just be sure to ask the techs to do it next time I have my truck serviced. Thanks guys

should pop drums and check for axle leaks too

sometimes first symptom of axle leak is slipping e-brake
