I can pee myself on comand. Nothing screams "I was scared for my life, Your honor", louder than a LEO Report that states "....Home owner urinated him self"

    ^Very true.

I have 2 dogs outside and 1 inside. I have numerious weapons within my reach as well as some pretty good training.

22 people near me were robbed in 1 weekend! Not 1 thing was missing from my yard nor did anyone enter it, atleast thats what my outside boys say. I also have motion lights outside....but when I go out I turn them off, I know my yard better than they do.

Shit in California you could have someone break into your house, pull a gun on you, rape your wife, kick your kid, shoot your dog, steal your car, crash into a cop car and then sue you because you lived at that adress, he didnt like you so he had to pull a gun, sue you for your wife crying during sex which emotionally scarred him, your dog tried to bite him, and your car handled poorly so he accidentaly hit a police car.

The shepherd not barking is a little weird, maybe she was in ninja mode and didnt want him to know he/she was there for a ninja bite. :D

Better use two hands! 3" turkey loads pack one hell of a punch. You try and shoot that one handed and see what happens. I would imagine, even using two hands, that the barell is going to jump up over your head. I use 3" 4's out of my Browning Goldhunter with a 26" barrel (for turkey hunting).

Yes, F California. And I have yet to run into a Shepherd who would run off. But then again we have a German Shepherd, Pit Bull, and a Bullmastiff and the shepherd wont stop barking, and if the door opens the pit and mastiff run off. Good thoughts on grabbing the gun, FWIW we just bought my mom a remington 870 20 guage tactical shotgun just for this reason. its pretty easy to manuever, I was clearing the house the other day :D

We had that happen to us once, too. I ran down the street with my Mossburg one crisp morning, after hearing some light talking and a giggling of the door handle on the side door of our house. I burst out of the covers and grabbed the gat, ran out of the house, only to find nothing. After filing a police report, (only because the neighbors called the cops for me running down the street with a pistol grip shotgun), the cops said that it probably was a drunk. Apparently this situation happens more frequently than you'd expect. Old time drunks, well, get drunk, and actually forget where they live, and often times return to places they used to live at by mistake.

The neighborhood we live in now is in an older part of town and frequented by transients who always dig around the trash and make our dogs go ape-shit, so I'm always bursting out of bed with the same awkward feeling, "well, maybe I'll get to shoot somebody today", only to find a poor bum staggering down the street.

My long-winded point -- it could be possibly that this was a benign occurance, but don't let that stop you from defending you and yours at all costs. Just understand what laws govern what you can do in those situation and be easy with the trigger, its hard to protect your family from prison.

Haha yep. Good advice. My Golden retriever has really good hearing and usually lets me know someone is there before I can hear them. He's also good at scaring away jehovahs witnesses :D. Granted as soon as anyone opens the door he turns on his back and wants you to scratch his belly...he still makes a good guard dog.

I have witnessed the same situation before a few years ago. I just went to bed and heard some noises that sounded like they were coming from my kitchen. I thought it was my roomate so I went downstairs...no one was there. I look out the bay window in my dining room that was above the garage and saw a guy trying to lift open my garage door. He finally gave up and ran off to a car that was waiting up the street and they took off quickly. My guess is they were trying to steal all of my tools since you could see them from the street throught the windows on the garage door. Fortunately I slid bolts into the garage door tracks so you couldn't open the door since the lock didn't work. Called the cops, gave them a description of the guy and the car.

The next day I called the landlord and he installed two new solid aluminum garage doors with no windows and two garage door openers. I screwed the sliding window in the garage shut, screwed a block across the backdoor of the garage, and put a layer of 5% window tint on the 4'X4' picture window on the side of the garage.

I think the peeing on yourself will out totally sell a jury. Next time, I'm going to try it. And yeah, double tapping is always done out of fear. You just gotta close your eyes and look away. :):):):)

    Toledo homeowner shoots, kills intruder

    Wednesday, October 28, 2009 9:47 PM PDT

By Greg Garrison and Leslie Slape

A 45-year-old man was shot and killed by a Toledo homeowner, who woke up to find the man inside his house Tuesday night, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

Mark Ronald Michels of Toledo died at the scene, according to the Lewis County Coroner’s Office.

Michels formerly lived in Longview and received brief notoriety in 2002 when he crafted three wood-burned panels commemorating the 9/11 terrorist attacks. They were hung in the lobby of Wild Grizzly Casino in Kelso.

Chief Deputy Gene Sieber said detectives were at the scene through the night and continued their investigation Wednesday. He said full details will be released when the investigation is finished.

The homeowner, 62, told sheriff’s detectives he was sleeping in his house in the 100 block of Mulford Road when he was awakened around 10:40 p.m. by a noise that led him to believe someone was trying to break in. Then he heard someone coming up the stairs inside the residence, he said.

The homeowner, whose name was withheld, told detectives he ordered the intruder to “freeze,” but the man continued to approach, according to the sheriff’s office. He said he shouted “freeze” again, but the other man kept coming closer. The homeowner said he then fired to stop the man from advancing.

Michels’ artwork was featured in Daily News stories in 2002 and 2006. He said he was surprised at how much attention he received for his wood-burned panels commemorating the terrorist attacks. He put the panels up for sale in 2006 but failed to find a buyer.

Most recently, Michels had been working as a painter/bodyman at Washington Truck Rebuilders, located along Interstate 5 near the Vader exit, up until a month ago, when he was fired, said Terry Hanson, the company’s owner.

Michels had a criminal history that includes felony convictions in Idaho for burglary and grand theft. He was also found guilty of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm in Cowlitz County, as well as numerous misdemeanors, according to court records.

Hanson said he fired Michels after learning of his criminal record.

Michels still was renting a house owned by Hanson at the time of the shooting. The house is near the home where Michels was shot Tuesday night. Hanson said.

Michels owed him about $2,500 in rent and deposit, Hanson said. Hanson recalls asking Michels how he would pay the rent without any source of income.

“He said he didn’t have a job and didn’t have any money but he knew how to get it,” Hanson said.

Hanson said the two had been friends, but Michels couldn’t kick his addiction to alcohol.

“I tried everything to get him straightened out,” said Hanson, who said he caught Michels drinking on the job shortly before firing him.

Michels was divorced and had two sons who live in Idaho.

“He was very talented,” Hanson said. “That’s why it was such a waste. He had all the talent in the world as far as working, but he had no confidence in himself.”

The sheriff’s office had little comment on the investigation into the matter Wednesday, but the office has investigated other Lewis County homeowners who have shot intruders.http://thehighroad.us/showthread.php?p=5188524
