I'm locked all the time. No problems.

 

People forgetting it's locked in high range and 2WD and hitting solid ground plus turning a corner.

 

I'm going to say that's not a valid argument against doing the mod. With that logic you shouldn't use 4wd because you'll forget to turn it off. If you're that oblivious to what's going on you're probably use to breaking things anyways.

 

"Used it too much when it was new." <- most common cause of breakage

 

Speeds of 5mph to lock and unlock it. Not while actually driving.

I did it on mine since I got rid of the 4wd computer when I did the fj transfer case

That was included with the work.

 

Except the computer on a 2nd gen will throw lights and a buzzer if you start going too fast in low with it locked which is for the oblivous. My understanding is that when you do the mod those will NOT come on hence the increased possibility of breakage.

As you stated, you have only found it useful in 2WD and for "fun". Fun typically equals increased speed and tension on parts that where not designed for higher speeds when locked. That too can lead to more breakage.

But hey you are still just a kid so you are oblivious to the older and wiser Eric's.

Oh damn. I think death valley might be cooler that time of year.

 

My 5th gen can do that factory, but I know it's backwards from how it should work. The bitch is the 100W in the center console only works in park but the rear 400W works in drive.

 

Luckily I got a cabin for MOAB. No way I'd camp out there this time of year.

Definitely, it seems like some of the early T4R's have it wired like that.
