Shhhhh.... I run a drop in K&N air filter in everyone of my vehicles. They work great and last forever. You may need to clean your MAF every once in awhile (I haven't had to b/c of a code but just as standard maint.)

There's a lot of opinions that will probably be following in regards to how they're junk so take it all for a grain of salt either way.

I like the AFE PRO-DRY. Clean-able, drop-in replacement for stock but a bit pricey compared to stock.

OEM or a good coffee filter works in a pinch :D

OEM or Wix brand paper filter.

K&N's 'work' so well because they allow more air through, which can lead to problems over a long period of time (dust and particles getting into the engine, not to mention your MAF sensor getting dirty and going bad). I had a drop-in K&N on my last Tacoma and I had to replace my MAF once, and had to clean it more than once due to it getting dirty and throwing codes. OEM filters were designed to do the job the best, I'd stick with them.

I agree. I to had to replace my MAF sensor after installing a drop in K&N filter so I went back to a WIX air filter and now I don't have to clean my MAF sensor anymore since I'm not putting that oil you spray on the K&N filter that supposedly keeps particles from sticking to the filter. OEM or close to it is a lot less of a hassle!

Yup, especially if you go off-roading in dusty conditions. K&N's will give all kinds of trouble under those circumstances, my last one sure did.

Napa gold for me....I was able to grab a few for 15 dollars each at eBay. I replace after an off-road run.

+1 - just replaced my OEM with one of these, so that I theoretically never have to buy a new filter. Cleaned the MAF sensor at the same time.
