When purchasing 5100's for a stock rear there are normally not many questions to ask. I have noticed that on my 99 tacoma I have more space inbetween the bumpstops than I have up travel on my shocks. This means that when bottoming out it is your shocks that take the beating not the bumpstops. I purchased the regular 5100's and was never informed about this! I thought this was quite weird since I could have messed up the valving in both shocks. A lot of guys out there are running this setup (5100 w/stock rear) so I thought I would put this out there for the ones who do not know. I am planning to add a 1 inch iron block onto the upper bumpstop to hopefully take care of this! Any other solutions would be cool to hear.....

Depends where you buy them some clearly say it will only work with lifted applications and others wont sqy anything at all but yes bilistien rear shocks must be used with a lifted rear end.

Down South Motorsports helped me out and told me exactly what to get, and it works great. The rear shocks have to be the correct length, PLUS the drivers and passenger side rear shocks are different. I got the kit part# BE5-D558-T0 and it works great. Send them an email and ask what to get, he will help you out:

Looks like there are different part numbers based on if lift installed or not. Sounds like you got the incorrect set. If ordered correctly billy's 5100 will work fine. Been researching this myself as I want to keep stock as well.

Might have gotten 5125s or something. 5100 bodys are only a little longer than stockers so relocating the bumps shouldn't really be necessary. Plus i havent heard of anyone elsd with this problem and ALOT of members use these.

My bad, didnt look at the year of the OP.
Little searching yielded 5100'S are good for 0" to 3" lift.
    Same with 5125's

    Not sure..

Yea I ordered the 5100s for a 1st gen tacoma and I have an AAL but the height is probably the same as stock now.I love the travel (even though im not using it to it's full potential currently).

It's less Tacoma and more mod
Remember your shocks are angled so the axle travel to shock travel are not 1:1.

And heres toytecs description of 5125 rear shocks
A463 ---33-186542 - Extended Length Rear Bilstein Shocks

    Fits '95.5-'04 Tacoma

5125 Series Rear Bilstein Shocks for 2 1/2 to 3 1/2" of rear lift

    Bilstein Zinc plated shocks

These longer rear shocks are designed to work great with our rear lift products.

    Bushings included.

    Measurements: Extended 24.35"/Collapsed 15.11"

    Sold as a pair.

**Not recommended for less than 2 1/2" of lift

NOTE: you must check for proper bumpstop engagement on the rear suspension. You will likely need to install longer bumpstops to prevent the shock from bottoming out before the bumpstops do.
